The forecast tomorrow is stormy. But today was a mild, autumn day. So, on All Hallow's Eve,  I returned to haunt the graveyard at the Ramshorn Church, and unexpectedly found life in the midst of death.

I spent the early part of this week working in Dumfries, in the south-west of Scotland. It's a mainly agricultural area, but Dumfries itself is a pleasant town, with the River Nith running through the centre.

The Met Office promised us a barbecue summer. But the only thing sizzling were people's tempers as the rain kept battering down on our heads.

And now we're into the autumn, and the rain is still battering down on our heads.

Still, we had a few nice days, and at least the flowers appreciated the rain falling on their heads.
