Lenae - 8 Months Already

Dec 13, 2007 19:51

Lenae is 8 months old today.

It's been busy - chickenpox and general crud/fever have kept us hopping the past week with Lenae. She's still cranky and not sleeping, but the spots are fading.

Weight (as of last week): 16lbs 15oz (up 9 pounds from birth). This is a "big" gain for her as she's normally been gaining about 1/2 pound per month and coming up from 14lbs 8oz makes the last two months just over a pound each. It was reassuring because I worried about the long-term gain she'd have once we eliminated the formula and relied solely on solids and breastmilk.

I haven't measured her length but she is outgrowing the 9 month sized clothing and needing more and more of the 12 month sizes, so I think she's still trending to tall and slender.

Milestones:

Physical - not sitting independently yet. She'll sit for a minute or so if you put her down while sitting up, but then something gets her attention and she topples over to scoot on belly or back to get to it. She'll stand for up to 5 minutes if helped and likes to bounce up and down while standing in my lap. She can pass even smaller toys back and forth between her hands, and she definately knows they still exist if they disappear. Her favorite game is to throw a toy and then screech to demand it be retrieved. Bonus points if she can either hit the cat with the toy - or land it in the cat bowl - I swear. She can work the controls on her crib toy and knows how to turn the music on and off. She likes to play peekaboo with her burp cloth, although the boys still initiate the game.

Verbal - she is still saying Bubba, but not as often, and seems to understand it applies to the boys. Second word: Mama. It's a definate reference to me, as she'll yell it at me when I'm not picking her up fast enough or she hears my voice from another room. She also understands "no", but generally just gives me a look of patent disgust and does whatever anyway after a pause.

Feeding - while we've let her play around with some finger foods, she spends more time throwing them to the cat than actually eating. She's covered most of the stage 2 foods and is progressing well to thicker & chunkier foods. She likes her baby cereal pancakes (banana flavored) and occasionally eats a few bites of toast in between throwing it. However, gerber puffs are off the menu... for some reason she doesn't try to gum them - only swallow them whole. A treat than can wait a month or two, I think. Her favorites are sweet potatoes and hawaiian delight. On the bad list remain peas and green beans, both of which are tolerated only if mixed with a more favored food such as carrots.

Still just the two bottom teeth, although the top left is trying to make an appearance. She is not sleeping through the night by any means, but goes down about 7ish, sleeps until around 10, wakes to nurse, back down til about 1-2am. Then she's in bed with me for the rest of the night, waking every 2-3 hours to nurse. Her extreme separation anxiety focused on me (and on my 13 year old in my absence) seems to be easing up after a rough two months, but she still detests car rides with a passion (even in her "big girl seat" aka the new convertible car seat).

Apparently she got tired of Daddy playing papparazzi. Bigger pics if you click on them.
