OB appt update

Thanks for the comments yesterday... rather than reply individually, I'll cover them here. ;-)

Ginger and peppermint work - only when I've got whatever in my mouth. As soon as the last of the taste fades, bam, back comes the nausea. Emetrol helps, but it actually *increases* the nausea for the first 10-20 minutes before it controls it (and leaves an aftertaste like I've got cherry plastic on my tongue). If I can keep from coughing or sneezing, that won't be a big issue.

However, Dr. C thinks that it's more like acid reflux causing it than actual nausea. Acid reflux would cause the burning and coughing I've been having. He also suspects acid reflux because after I DO get sick, I can eat another small meal and keep it down with no problems. Therefore, gettign sick is ridding my stomach of the acid buildup, allowing me to eat again.

For now, I'm drinking Maalox like nobody's business, but if it persists, he will consider something stronger. I can call back in and ask for a Reglan prescription if needed as well. Last night was a no-get-sick night, despite heartburn that felt like I'd been set on fire from the inside out. Maalox tastes so darn nasty. I'm eating tiny meals and carrying cheerios around to munch on, as Dr. C recommends cereal because of the higher nutrition for snacks.

I have not lost any weight in the last two weeks, which probably explains why the OB is not horribly concerned. However, I haven't gained any. Weight's going to be a pain with this pregnancy, because I have NO idea how much I weighed pre-pregnancy. The last doc visit I had was in December 2005, and I weighed 184 then. My weight has gone back and forth between 180 and 185 since the miscarriage in 2004. I think the nurse wrote down 180, so watch them start yelling at me over that possible 5 pound difference later on.

We got to hear the heartbeat for the first time yesterday!!!! It was so funny. Dr. C's got the wand on my tummy and he keeps having to chase the baby. We'd hear these "whoosh" noises and he'd smile, telling us that that was the baby moving away from the wand. He says the baby is very active. He finally got a good reading... 145.

We go back the day before thanksgiving for an ultrasound... THINK PINK folks. ;-) He's going to take measurements and compare them to my initial visit to ensure that my due date is correct. I have the worst luck with ultrasound predictions... both of my boys were predicted to be tiny little things, not 8 pounders. They fooled the doc.

Appt highlights: Weight, 188.5. Blood pressure: 120/70. Baby's heartrate: 145. Pregnancy Week: 16.
