Lovely long walk in the wet part of Tallaganda (State Forest section, Main Range trail) today - not many photos, other than a lovely big probably fallen fungus. Not too cold, few drops of rain, but otherwise very pleasant. Huge contrast to last weekend (National Park section, Bald Hill trail) - very dry, very cold, very windy to the point where one felt one should have worn hard-hats. Lot of trees down as a result, broken-off bits and branches everywhere, but I think some clearing's been done since then. Not many motorbikes today.
Not much else to report; finally got hold of Solaris on DVD, bought far too many books from the dump-em-for-$5 spots in Canberra, gradually recovering linocut skills, practising piano - badly and infrequently - putting off signing up for three-year teaching degree despite pressure from boss... etc etc. Lots of fun with
cooking new stuff, and have been pretty good about cutting down on Certain Food etc (however resentfully). Lots of reading too, at last! and a lot of time with BF catching up (plus quiet childfree dinner with her & her hubby).
Haven't seen Dad for 2 weeks - extreme non-cycling weather and (his) appointments preventing; will have to find a way to get down there this week if only to give sister a break; the poor thing's going crazy, and there's just no way to get away from him now they're all in the one house. TLDR: he really is bloody impossible and it's all feeling a bit Obligatory. Which is sad, and possibly not entirely fair, maybe, but there it is. Sober he may be, but the man can be still a right solipsistic little rotter when it suits.
Missing Mum. Not all the time, not in an overwhelming way, but it jumps up and hits me unexpectedly - finding a book or quote or recipe or stone she'd like, wanting to tell her Newest Niece has been practising saying "begetable!" while she falls asleep at night, things the preschoolers and visiting Big Kids get up to, etc... Ah well.
Must remember to apply for 3 days' leave; we've a chance of a week snowboarding with friends in a week or two if I can get the time off.
Now? waiting for spa to hit 40 degrees so we can soak off the walk in comfort :)
