Nat handed me a DVD that a few hours prior had rendered her in tears (to be fair, she is probably blogging about this as I type). It was one of the Parelli DVD's that she gets monthly. In it contained a video of Pat Parelli working with a young woman that is a paraplegic. I can't provide a description that would do justice to what I witnessed. ( Read more... )

I guess I can go ahead and state the obvious here.

You don't need legs to ride a horse. Or even arms. You just need a common language. What that agreement turns out to be is between the horse and you.

You figured out what leads are! This is good! At the risk of sounding like a Star Wars geek...You've taken the first step into a larger world. It's occurred to you to wonder what your horse's legs are actually DOING down there. And that it might be important.

Good thing you don't ride English or you'd have to figure out what DIAGONALS are next! Hee hee hee.

I love what you wrote in another entry about mixed signals. One thing that always worked well for me was to visualize a successful outcome to what I was asking the horse to do. YMMV
