Soujiro doesn't know where he's going, and sometimes he has trouble remembering where he's been. But he has to keep traveling, he knows that.
He's lost track of the number of people he killed while working for Shishio. Maybe he'd never known the number at all. He just knows that he's killed too many.
So now he travels, trying to atone. It doesn't bother him that he's essentially following in Himura Kenshin's footsteps. The method worked for Kenshin-san, he became a better man than the killer he was, so that makes Soujiro hopeful that maybe someday he'll begin to heal too.
He thinks sometimes that he should go to Edo and see them, see how they're getting on, but somehow he never gets around to it. He likes to think that Kenshin-san is happy now, and he doesn't want to ruin that by showing up unexpected. After all, he and Kenshin-san were enemies once upon a time, and Soujiro's still not sure he has his head on completely straight.
So he doesn't go, he just wanders, helping those he can. Maybe someday it will be enough.
