I have time between classes, and the book I need for homework is too big to lug around with me if I don't have to, so instead you get a genuine LJ update from me. :)
(apologies if any of this is redundant; I can't remember any more what I said ten minutes ago, let alone what I may have posted here.)
My life is, for the most part, blindingly boring. I have class, I have homework, I sleep. I have managed to squeeze in a little bit of a social life-just enough to keep me sane-but I have to ration it.
Second semester seems to be going well, so far, even if it is keeping me insanely busy. I've got 17 credits, and DU really is a school where homework averages out to 2-3 hours of homework for every hour in class, so I'm putting in 60-70 hour weeks, most of the time. Add in travel times, sleeping, eating, showering, etc., and it doesn't leave me much time left over. Still, I'm enjoying it, and the FMS is kicking in far less than I have any right to expect, given my schedule and the cold weather.
Things with Boyfriend are going swimmingly, even if much of our time together is spent sitting in the same room while I do homework. I've started making dinner for us most nights, which is working out well. I'm eating more regularly, I'm eating healthier, it's cheaper, and I'm learning all sorts of new cooking skills. I'm nowhere close to gourmet, yet, but I make a mean meatloaf. :)
Life and school keep intersecting, which is fun. I'm taking an ethics class this semester (hello, politics); I'm taking macroeconomics (hello, stimulus package); for my "demonstration speech" in my public speaking class on Thursday, I'm going to teach my class how to crochet. They each get a ball of yarn with a small piece I got started (on an "S" hook; never mind the fact that anything bigger than a "G" hook feels big to me), and we're going to learn using just our fingers, since I can't afford 18 hooks to give away. It should be fun. :)
I am still convinced that accounting is going to kill me, but my instructor seems to think that I'm doing well. There are a lot of things where the basics just make sense to me, and I can get through the foundations, at least, fairly easily. Accounting is . . . not one of those. I can get it, eventually, but I have to fight for every step. Add that to the fact that the reading takes forever (30-40 large pages a chapter, and you can only make accounting just so interesting to non-accountants) and the homework takes even longer (5 hours for two long, involved problems, last week), and it makes me want to weep.
I also took a huge step outside my comfort zone and joined the Legal Assistants at DU group. One meeting so far, but it looks like it will be extremely helpful both in terms of networking and for volunteer/internship opportunities; good for both learning and padding the resumé.
Overall, life is good. And hey, once I get done with school, a 40 hour work week (or thereabouts) should be a walk in the park. :)
Next up, I try to get my holiday crafting post up before I have to head to class.
