* I am currently torn between feeling sorry for myself because all my tentative plans for NYE fell through, or really enjoying the fact that I'm spending a quiet evening at home alone. I think I'm probably going to end up on the side of enjoyment.
* Did Dick Clark have a stroke or something that I've since forgotten about? Because if he didn't, the man is seriously drunk right now. (
seanphoenix has informed me that the answer is, in fact, yes on the stroke. I just missed it.)
* No real writing so far this weekend, and there probably won't be any tomorrow, either. I'm claiming it's because I'm entitled to a nice, relaxing long weekend without having to deal with my drama. Really, though, it has more to do with the fact that Zelda (Ocarina of Time) has stolen my soul. :)
*
gwerydd_2, I tried to call today, but apparently it's been long enough since the last time I used my long distance phone card that the account got deleted. I will buy a new one and try again next weekend, since I'm guessing that you won't be at the computer much, if at all, until the wee one is here (or after, for that matter).
* I'm a bit annoyed that they do that, though. It's a prepaid phone card. I gave them my money already, and I should be able to spend it whenever I choose.
* I feel like I've been stalking
gwerydd_2's sister. The last two times I went into my [former] coffee shop (just before Christmas, and then this past Thursday), she was already there. Then Friday I went into my new usual place to get my chai, and there she was in line in front of me.
* So, for Christmas, I sent a completely unexpected and slightly extravagant present package to
seanphoenix, because I like to spoil people, he had to spend the holidays away from his family and most of his friends, and it's so fun when he gets flabbergasted. Yesterday, however, I had the tables turned on me. Our family posted Christmas lists to the family email list this year, and mine consisted primarily of yarn and gift certificates so that I can get more yarn. Yesterday, the door buzzer wakes me up, and the mail lady brings me this package. Apparently, my aunt saw my list, raided her yarn stash, and sent a whole pile out to me. Now, granted, a couple of the skeins have been slightly used, but still. None of it is cheap yarn, and there's a lot of it. We're talking $150-$200 worth! Holy freaking shit!
* Tuesday, I have to remember to leave myself plenty of extra time to get to work. Assuming that everything runs exactly on schedule, I should be okay, but we all know how that works, especially when air planes are involved. The official schedule runs like this, following the lying in state and the national funeral service:
- 12:15 p.m.: Departure ceremony from Andrews Air Force Base.
- 2:15 p.m.: Body will arrive at Gerald R. Ford International Airport, Grand Rapids, MI.
- 2:30 p.m.: Presidential motorcade will move the body to Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.
There are three problems with this scenario, for me.
1. These things never run exactly on schedule and I anticipate we'll be at least 45 minutes behind, by this point in the day;
2. My shift starts at 3:30;
3. I work, essentially, across the street from Gerald R. Ford International Airport.
It will all depend on how far behind they are, which route the motorcade takes to get from the airport to downtown, and if (and for how long) they close off adjoining roads.
* Happy New Year,
all!
