Was talking with another archaeologist this afternoon who basically told me that I'll never get anything accomplished in this desert other than doing the best salvage archy work I can.  This is an acquaintance for those of you reading here who know who I know. Not R, not C, not D. Someone else. This person knows the high desert like I do (in all its glorious corruption and don't give a shitness, etc.) and didn't mean to discourage me, I'm sure. Also this person is purely in the archaeological realm, doesn't teach, which provides a little perspective. Since I've been teaching, I've seen students turn around on issues, especially global warming, sustainability stuff, and the ubiquitous presence of human evolution. I don't think I'll change Fred the Weasel land pirate, but aren't the young people the ones we hope to pass this mess onto, hopefully somewhat improved, or at least with the ability to generate some new ideas about how to improve it all?
