Blogging Tarot: 0 - The Fool

So, this card I'm keeping exactly the same from the last round, as I still think it fits.

It's Merlin on his way to Camelot - starting a new journey in life and finding his way through it. He has yet to truly start developing, and he still has big dreams and his head in the clouds.

One particularly interesting thing for me is some interpretations of the Rider-Waite deck of the Tarot cards - The Fool is often interpreted to be the prince of another world starting on his journey as a simply countryman in this world.

Maybe I was reading too much into it, but during Episode 308: The Fisher King, when Merlin meets with the Fisher King alone in the throne room, it really felt like the Fisher King was giving more than just the water from the lake of Avalon to Merlin. As he said, it was Merlin's time, now, Merlin and Arthur - they were going to bring in a new world together.

I really felt, from the scene, that it was almost like a crowning ceremony. Merlin was kneeling before the Fisher King, accepting his role as Emrys, and his responsibility for magic. Combined with so many people calling him Emrys - and knowing that he is to be an icon of the future, some kind of leader for magic, and someone who will work in tandem with the Once and Future King - Arthur - to bring peace and prosperity to the land. He will not serve Arthur, but be alongside him, as an equal - and if that makes him someone who's future role will be an equal to a king, that would make him almost a prince, now. And to go with that, both he and Arthur spend the series learning to push their own limits, the limits of their society, and learning how to make the world a better place and how to navigate through all its trials.

So, yeah, I'm basically saying Merlin is kind of like a Prince of Magic, making his way through the not-magic world. :) That is why this image fits the "Fool" card.
