Old Tarot Cards

So, I'm redoing my Merlin Tarot cards. My last ones were...well, I didn't learn about the meanings of each card as much as I should have, so now that I'm learning more, not all of them fit (Especially in light of new characters in Season 2 and 3).

I'm here to post up all my old cards (I did 11 cards, up to #10: The Wheel of Fortune), so that people know where I'm coming from. Below are the cards, and my musings on why, at the time, I chose those ones.

Card
Notes

Basically, Merlin was The Fool in this case, heading towards Camelot on the beginning of his journey.

The Magician was associated with doing things, action, force of will, ect., so I associated Merlin with that, as he tends to get things done. I will definitely keep Merlin on for this card, but the actual card itself will likely change.

As this was made post-S1, Nimueh was the only High Priestess at the time. Now I also have Morgause. Both will be good for this card, so I'm not sure who I'm going to choose.

The Empress if often associated with fertility and nurturing - a place to grow. I see Merlin as developing for 19 years with his mother, Ealdor being a safe place to grow, but being "born" by going to Camelot to face his destiny. She also is kind and motherly to Arthur - she is a person and a place where the boys' relationship can grow. Her character will definitely stay on for this one, but I may make the card less tacky.

The Emperor is about having a firm hand and responsibility - which is definitely descriptive of Uther. At the time, I placed the emphasis on the responsibility aspect, thus chaining Uther to his throne. I think I'll take out the chain, but otherwise keep it somewhat the same.

This card is meant to be about teaching, which is what I describe Gaius as. The emphasis is on orthodox teaching and traditionalism - which, during S1 and early S2, was also how I saw Gaius (can you tell how I wasn't happy about him not wanting Merlin to tell Morgana about his magic?) Now, though, I think Kilgarragh might be more fitting for this card - possibly. I'm still debating.

The effect was suppose to be Arthur and Gwen - the married couple - being in the center, but faded out, while Lancelot/Gwen and Arthur/Merlin were bright and on the edges - Arthur and Gwen are married but don't love each other, at least not passionately. Lancelot/Gwen and Arthur/Merlin, however, are immortal. But I really don't like the result. I think I'll do something a little more understated for the new version of the card.

The Chariot is a card of movement and progression, and I thought it would fit Queen Guinevere perfectly - as a commoner, she would be a really progressive queen. Don't know if I'll hang onto her as The Chariot in the next round.

This card is a lot about internal strength, rather than any type of physical strength. I still thought it fit Arthur well, as he has a lot of strong convictions, and he has a...strengthening will. His heart is strong, so he fit. I am not sure if I will keep him in the next round...considering Gwaine is actually named "Strength" by Grettir, I have to ponder including him, some how...the problem is he isn't exactly known for restraint or self-control...but he's trying? Hm...

This was about someone isolated who provided illumination, which was the Dragon, in a roundabout way. Now? The dragon seems to cause as much trouble as illumination, and I think there are other characters who could be a bit more fitting for this role...

The Round Table really seemed to fit as The Wheel of Fortune - representing change. The table you see here is one randomly pulled off the Internet, as this was before we saw the Round Table in S3.

And there be my rambling on my old Tarot cards! I will be "blogging" my creation of the Tarot as I go along, so I'll be posting my newer tarot cards as I make them and my musings on them, to boot. :)
