End of year meme:
1. What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?
Joined a Samba drumming group, started hula-hooping, played Starcraft obsessively :P, houseboating!!, left home, became a doctor :D, went to the Kimberleys, climbed Kilimanjaro, went to Greece, France & Egypt, started playing the mandolin.
2. Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I didn't make any last year :(. I'll probably make some in the next few days. Most likely going to be: MINIMISE THE NUMBER OF MISTAKES I MAKE AS AN INTERN, keep studying throughout the year...
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes!
4. Did anyone close to you die? No
5. What countries did you visit? Tanzania, Kenya, Egypt, Greece, France, United Arab Emirates, The Kimberleys (I'm counting it as a separate country because it is SO AWESOME)
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010? Stability at home.
7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory? My entire elective. Everything that happened at home. The last day of Med School - having to drive all the way up to Swannies for a ward round before we got our marks :P, The entire period of Rural GP.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Finishing med :D :D :D.
9. What was your biggest failure? Those times where I lost my temper.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Nope.
11. What was the best thing you bought? Those super thick padded gloves. I've never been so cold as I was in Europe. Also!!! All my africa stuff.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration? Adon, my mum.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed? Guess. *sigh*
14. Where did most of your money go? Elective :(
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Elective (I feel like i'm on repeat here!), houseboating!, renting a house, camping in the bungles, drumming
16. What song/album will always remind you of 2010? Haha and i'll have to agree with Sheeba about Duck Sauce - Barbara Streisand.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder? I don't know. Free-er. Which makes me both happier and sadder.
Thinner or fatter? Thinner.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of? First time I can say I studied enough!! :P I wish I'd done more drawing and reading throughout the year.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Starcraft 2, Plants vs. Zombies :P.
20. How did you spend Christmas? At home, feeling to hot to even move. Spent the day reading which was awesome and then had dinner out at Yasasya's place.
21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with? Adon, my mum, real estate agents.
22. Did you fall in love in 2010? Yes.
23. How many one-night stands in this last year? Zilch.
24. What was your favourite TV program? hm, too many good shows! Sherlock, Community, Psych! is always a favourite, Modern Family was hilarious, Dexter was great until the finale... thats all that comes to mind.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? No. Yes. Clinical Services. :S
26. What was the best book(s) you read? Jaspar Jones. Snow Crash.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Too many random things found to list here...
28. What did you want and get? To the top of Kili without vomiting! huzzah! Also a house! huzzah again! And a med degree!
29. What did you want and not get? LEAVE FOR THE MONGOL RALLY... MY ROTATIONS YET *GLARES AT CLIN SERVICES*
30. What were your favourite films of this year? Despicable Me, Toy Story 3, Departures, Kick Ass, Boy, 3 Idiots (yay bollywood!)
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I was (am) 23, we were in Egypt just after finishing our tour and it was the day Jasmine and I were flying out to Paris and Adon was coming back home. Adon and Jasmine bought me a cake, party hats, candles, chocolate, random other food and then we had a party on the floor of our hotel room. :D Also Jasmine took me out to dinner in a pretty restaurant in Athens for a birthday present :D
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? No family drama.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010? Smart casual (my wardrobe is mainly fully of things I can wear to hospital). This summer I'm all about the loose and flowy :D
34. What kept you sane? Adon. The noodles. TV shows.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? uhhhh, drawing a blank here.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? Urgh, I barely watched the news this year. Elections were pretty interesting in a DEAR-GOD-NOT-TONY-ABBOTT kind of way.
37. Who did you miss? Adon.
38. Who was the best new person you met? The bunch of people we were living with at KCMC. They were pretty damn awesome. Tove - one of the sweetest people I've ever met, opinionated Anna and her boyfriend with the weird facial hair, poor sunburnt Jaspar, Kon (who was ridiculously young), Georgie & Sam - the Adelaide girls, Kasia, Amita, Dorein, the list goes on...
Actually, I can think of one person I met who, if I had to rank these stupid things, would definitely be in the top bunch: Thomas. He was this tall, lanky middle aged German preacher-turned-medical student, who just loved everything around him. He loved tongue twisters and finding funny sayings he found in other languages, he loved Africa, he loved talking to everyone he met and having random adventures, he loved medicine and he's one of the few people who are true gentlemen. He didn't have any of the cynicism you see in med students here and he had the most twinkly eyes that I'd often think that when he became old, he'd make the most awesome Santa. I feel better for having known him... The last I saw of him, he was headed to some remote village in Tanzania looking hilariously squashed in a dalla dalla.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010: Sometimes doing the right thing just sucks. Also, Western health care is freakin awesome.
