See my response to Tim's question. And to continue that. My mom moved in with a guy named Papp Jaunus (he was Hungarian). He went by John Papp in the States. When I started school (headstart I think) everyone just assumed that I was little Ricky Papp so that became my name.

When I joined the Navy (actually I was in the process of joining the Army, but later changed my mind) my recruiter noticed a discrepancy on my Birth Certificate. I ended up going to boot camp and quickly earned a reputation as the stupidest person in my company as I did not even know my name. Literally, during roll call having the company commander call, "Brauburger, . . . Brauburger, . . . .BRAUBURGER!!!!" and me responding, "oh shit, that's me."

By this time, I knew that my biological father was a man named Alvy Floy Osborne. I had even met him once. Alvy claimed he was the first person in his family to actually write it (Osborne) therefore he determined the spelling. He was prone to telling stories, but he claimed that he had only heard the name and that it sounded like (ahz'-bin). At some point after my first marriage to Laurel Ann Zimmerman my biological father, who was now married to my mother and had been since I turned 23, offered to pay to change our last names to his. Laurel threw an extra e on the end of Ann at this point for no extra charge. I've been Osborne ever since.
