Hey everybody,
Longtime lurker, first-time poster.
I've recently been accepted to St. Mary's College of California for the Fall 2011 term (fiction MFA). I'm in contact with one of their administrators, but the more I talk with him, the more I worry about their financial aid packages-- they're all competitive and piecemeal. There are no tuition waivers a the university and, since a fiction MFA will land you exactly zero jobs after graduation, the general rule of thumb is "Never go into debt for a writing MFA".
Does anyone have any experience with St. Mary's College of California, specifically related to financial aid? Have their financial aid packages been able to cover the education?
Obviously, I'm not going to make a decision until I know precisely how much aid I'll be getting, but I'm still very interested in finding out how much people who've attended SMCC's grad programs have been supported.
Thanks in advance,
