Always ask.. it goes for most things in the application process. I have actually taken advantage of the fact that some of my schools don't require it and made it one of the questions I asked professors when emailing them. In my case, all of them said yes. We want everything. If they don't want to read it after you send it, they don't have to.

I have several papers that are incredibly related to the field that I'm going into (one of which my professor and I are publishing)

Ask if you can submit a writing sample and choose one. I think sending several papers would be a bit excessive. You should also put the upcoming publication on your CV under an "In Progress" or "Forthcoming Publications" headline.

All of the schools allow for "additional documents," but I'm afraid this might be going a bit too farHOLD THE PHONE! They've said outright that you can include additional documents and you're worried that including a resume might be going too far? What madness is this ( ... )
