For the creative writing MFA application, Columbia wants a 1,000 word essay responding to a work of literature in my concentration, written within the past ten years. So, fiction. I was going to submit a paper I wrote about House of Leaves, but I'm 99% sure that was written more than ten years ago. But anyway...
Does anyone have any idea what they're looking for with this? I don't want it to be a straight up "response" and find out later they really wanted a small research paper.
