Javits Fellowship
Is anyone else here applying, or has applied before, for the Javits Fellowship? I want to start working on my statement of purpose, but I'm not quite sure what I ought to focus on. Is it similar to the SoP for grad school admissions? (I'm about to start my first year of a PhD program.) Also, for those of us already in graduate school, does it make sense to spend time discussing how our new institution and planned course of study will help to fulfill scholarly goals? Or does that run the risk of being too name-droppy? (My current adviser, who I don't know well yet, is a big name in my field.) I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts on this.
