Emailing Grad Adviser, Tactfullness

Feb 03, 2009 16:00

I'm emailing a grad adviser at one of the schools where I'm applying to try and arrange a campus visit where I can talk to one of the current directing MFA students. The reason I'm going to be in town is because another school where I applied (my first choice) invited me to an interview.

Should I even mention that I'm interviewing at another school? It seems like it would be rude, but at the same time maybe it's good for them to know I'm getting offers?

I'm also curious because I keep seeing on Grad Cafe how other people have found out about their rejections by emailing the graduate adviser. How would you word this kind of email? "Hello, I've applied to X program and I'm emailing to check on my application status?" One would think these kinds of emails would get annoying...

advice, questions, e-mail
