Experimented with the filters again, and got a few decent shots of both(  Jupiter )

I was taking some vid of Venus tonight, through a violet filter, lowered the exposure etc etc and I still get a slight 'starburst' of light around it.

As you can see by the photographs behind the cut (taken with my Kodak Digital camera) Jupiter and the Moon are extremely close together, and visible even before the sun has fully set.  Venus is staying up in the night sky longer every night, and eyeblindingly bright if viewed unfiltered. This image was made by using IRIS to capture the AVI file, and RegiStax to align/optimise/stack it.  I did this with the CCD camera I made from that inexpensive webcam. If images this good can be done with it, I can only imaging how much better it will be with a more sensitive and precise webcam.

Had another go round with the telescope and camera with its homemade focal reducer.  My biggest hitch was not working with the motor drive, and getting the framerate/exposure settings right without it.  Won't make THAT mistake again.  I did get some good shots, and I might (emphasis on might) get em stacked to bring out more detail.  But I have to ( Read more... )

Remember, this is just my 2nd time out with this setup. The first time, I couldn't get Jupiter in frame to save my butt. :)
