day two

i have to find a website that lets me upload hundreds of pictures. any suggestions? i've used photobucket before, but they don't give that much space. recommendations you might have would be very useful.

sunday was filled with orientation stuff. after breakfast, we formed a giant circle in the oval (olin's version of a quad) to do a bunch of activities with a group called "High 5". first were a bunch of games to meet more people, and then we broke into five groups for the rest of the activites, which included:
-walking through the middle of the circle and saying someone else's name to make that person go through the circle
-standing around a big circle on the ground that had cards with the numbers 1 to 30 inside and figuring out the best way to step on them in order with only one person in the circle at a time
-picking up a bucket and transferring the balls in it to another bucket, using only five long pieces of rope and a rubber thing
-standing on skinny wooden beams and trying to get ourselves in alphabetical order without falling off the beams
-resting a hula hoop on our fingers and trying to move it downward to the ground (try it, it's a lot harder than it looks)
-putting a set of 30 or so pictures in order based on what each person said their picture looked like (we could each only see our own picture)

we had lunch outside somewhere in there. after finishing all of those activities and analyzing our performance in them, we had the egg drop challenge. we were given 16 bendy straws and about a meter of masking tape, and had to make something that would protect the egg from cracking when it landed. we also had to come up with a commercial to sell our product to nasa. the design my group came up with is very hard to describe in words, so you'll have to wait until i post the pictures. we were the first to go, so we did our commercial and then dropped the egg from the outdoor stairway to the second floor of the olin center. and the egg didn't break! we were all so surprised and so ecstatic. of the other four groups, only one egg broke. some of the commercials were very funny. i filmed them all on my camera. the next challenge was to see if the egg would survive a drop from the balcony of the academic center, which is four very tall floors up. we went first again, and our egg didn't break! we were cheering and congratulating each other so much. none of the others survived the drop, which made our success so much better. we're all such competitive people.

we all fit fairly well on the wooden waterfall for the class picture, which hopefully will be available soon.

dinner, and then honor code stuff. we had a presentation about it and then broke into small groups to discuss it. back to the auditorium to sign the honor code, which will be displayed on the wall with the ones from the other classes. i ended up towards the end of the line, so my signature was on the second to last row and ended up right under kent's.

we all watched the incredibles outside. i'd never seen the whole thing before, just clips while passing by the senior lounge last year, so i'm glad i finally got to see the whole thing. it was a cute movie, and incorporated olin's favorite honor phrase of "do something!" multiple times. then it was back to the room, and time for some much-needed sleep after a long day.
