Ah… just back from a play titled “Shakuntala” at Rangashankara. The play was about the hunter-king Dushyantha (enacted by Anmol Mothi) who falls in love with a girl in the forest - Shankuntala (enacted by Kiratana Kumar),and then forgets his love was produced by this confused bunch of people (Yes!) under the banner “Little Jasmine” with music by Konarak Reddy .
I really dont know what they had in mind when they wanted to make this “revolutionary theatre” play. It began with some poorly edited background video, with Konarak Reddy stringing something compleltely unrelated to the theme. Then suddenly he starts playing some western music from his mac. They wanted to include every kind of music, videos and whatever they had in their laptops i guess. So continuing the story , Shakuntala waited for 12 yrs for her lover and then decides to go the Palace to meet the king. Anyway, the play ends with the king accepting the symbolic 12yr old infant (uhmm.. 12yr old infant! )as his son with the audience on their toes to leave the hall !
This play is definitely not worth 150 Rs (Day light loot). Damn I could have had some good dinner instead.
