First, go ye hence out of Fredericksburg, toward the south and west by Route the First. Continue on through the hamlets of Spotsylvania and Massaponax. Continue onward, across the river Ni ("What kind of world is it that ruffians can go about saying Ni to old ladies at will...") until one sees the signs of the grape. Follow those signs to the Read more... )

    Annual Miles 2009: 7415

Yesterday we left Evansville to head for the Virginia Renaissance Festival. We got as far as Lewisburg, West Virginia. We stayed at a very nice motel called the Brier Inn. I would recommend it to anyone passing through. It was clean, roomy, and not too pricey. They had a pretty good breakfast, too ( Read more... )

We'll be departing Hampton in the morning. The Blackbeard Pirate Festival was just as busy as last year. Unlike last year, it didn't rain. Also unlike last year, the festival was open on Friday aternoon. We didn't know that it would be when we got there. We arrived at 11am on Friday, only to be told that we would be open at noon! Yipes! We unpacked ( Read more... )

Well, I've been so busy I haven't posted an update in a while. Our trip home was long and reasonably uneventful. We discovered that Susan's car doesn't like towing the trailor up a 7% grade. It doesn't have the horsepower. So the long trip got longer as we crawled up the mountains at a whopping 30 miles per hour. But we got there. Turns out I64 is ( Read more... )

So hoist up the John B's sail,
See how the main sail sets,
Call for the Captain ashore, let me go home...
I wanna go home, let me go home..."The trailor is packed, and we are ready to go whenever. If I have my way we won't leave until morning. Tomas at first seemed ready to start now, but I don't want to start a long drive in the evening, ( Read more... )

Wow. I finally managed to get online today, and backdated a couple entries. The hotel here charges for internet, and today has been the first day we've had enough time to make it worthwhile to pay the fee and sit down to catch up on email. We have said time because Tropical Storm Barry is blowing through, and the second day of the festival has been ( Read more... )

Well, we’re set up and ready as we can be, other than the fact I need to finish Susan’s garb tonight. Yesterday we scoped out the area and visited the Virginia Air & Space Museum, which as it turned out is hosting some of the Blackbeard Festival activities. The museum was pretty interesting, and very interactive. I enjoyed it despite the fact that ( Read more... )
