Did the quilt show thing today... The show quilts were as cool as ever, but I have to admit I'm glad that the show separates out handmade quilts and machine quilts into different categories. Otherwise I'm afraid real handwork may go extinct at the shows! For those not familiar, the
AQS Paducah Show is the GenCon of quilting. Thirty thousand fabric addicts like me. Personally, I'm a fan of the miniature quilts. Miniturization takes tons of talent and skill, and the finished pieces take up tons less space!
As an aside, I had to give a quirky nod to the
Rotary Club Show this year. Every year they feature a different collection of antique quilts, one of which is chosen as a model for the commemorative lapel pins and all that suchlike. This year's pin features a quilt whose motif was a non-traditional one; it was the symbol of the
Masonic Order of the Eastern Star. It tickles me somehow to see hundred of folks walking around wearing a symbol of an 'exclusive' group, many of whom have no clue what it means.
