Busy times with family visits

My sis and her husband were here over the weekend for the Notre Dame-Carolina football game. We arranged to meet my aged in-laws there too, and we all had a great time, except of course, that the Irish lost the game on a reviewed play that was called a fumble rather than a fair catch of a pass in the end zone with like 20 seconds to play. Argh!

Anyway, it was great to see Maggie and Mike. This was his first visit down here ever. He'd rather be fishing on the weekends than visiting relatives. Mag's been here several times, including once earlier this year. We went to the ND pep rally at a local hotel on Friday night, then to dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant. Saturday was all about the football, as we met Himself's family about 12:30, carpooled to the campus, parked, took a shuttle bus to the stadium, settled the aged p's in the bleachers, walked up the hill to have some barbeque for lunch, watched the marching band do its thing going toward the stadium, and finally got into our seats for the 3:30 kickoff.

Weather was good, pretty cool and cloudy, so very comfortable, and during the second half, a beautiful sunset could be seen over the opposite end zone. (We were sitting in temporary bleachers set up in the south end zone. Carolina taking advantage of the ND visit to sell more than the usual number of tickets. After all, some people will pay to watch Notre Dame win and some people will pay to watch Notre Dame lose, so whoever is selling tickets is in the catbird seat!

After the game, we had to wait a while for the shuttle back to the parking lot, then got caught in the traffic out of Chapel Hill. Finally got home about 9:30! Whew! Downed some cold fried chicken and went to bed. (Wasn't I smart to buy that bucket of chicken on Friday when it was on the weekly special at the Harris-Teeter!)

Sunday am, got Mag and Mike to the airport about 9 and still made it to 11:00 Mass.

Himself slept through Sunday morning. He'd actually gone for an 18-mile run on Saturday morning, training for the Richmond marathon on November 15. He usually takes a good nap on days after those long runs, but not this weekend. He also took a tumble just as he started to run (in the dark at 6:00am!), when he tripped over a tree root. Scraped one knee and both hands, but managed to keep his head off the ground. He was sore all day yesterday too, in his one shoulder that I think took all his weight when he caught his fall on his hands. He's better now, but still a little sore. I hope he will take a little time off from the training after Richmond, but he wants to do another marathon in Raleigh in the spring and is already looking at the San Francisco Marathon for next summer.
