Lazy Sunday

Actually I have a lot I could be doing, like a mountain of ironing hanging in the laundry room that I just can't get motivated to tackle, even though I have two Lifetime movies on the dvr to take my mind off the task (Flowers in the Attic and Lizzie Borden Took an Ax). But, you know, better to put off til tomorrow what you should be doing today - though I don't think that's how the saying really goes. ;)

I did walk for an hour this morning, because the weather was just perfect - not too cold and not hot yet. That won't last, of course. As I've said before, I'm not one to complain about the cold temperatures that have slid this far south the last few weeks. Seeing the truly frigid temperatures, snow, and ice our neighbors to the north and midwest are dealing with puts it all into perspective. And this is Florida, so just wait around a day or two, and we're back to experiencing record highs - like we will by next weekend.

Besides, it's only when we get these colder temperatures that I can dip into the 2/3 of my wardrobe I never get to wear any other time. And everyone looks better in winter clothing than they do summer wear. Usually I have to travel somewhere outside of Florida to mix up my wardrobe.

The only annoyance is how we have to cover all our tropical plants outside, which is most of them and a huge undertaking since The Spousal Unit devised a cold weather system for those plants with lights and cold covers. It definitely works, but it takes a lot of time to put up - and then you can't leave everything covered when the temperatures inevitably warm up again. This is the first year we've had such roller coaster temperatures every few days where we just get everything taken down and then have to turn around and put it all back out again.

I also have to haul in and out my more delicate plants from the back porch, and they're all in big heavy pots, so that's a back-breaking little chore.

The other annoyance is that once the temperatures dip below the 40's, I really have to bring in The Girl Child's grumpy dwarf rabbit and set up the Florida Room to accommodate him. So there's always that clean up to do after we can put him outside again.

Other than that, I've been enjoying the weather. Yesterday after we got the cold cover system all taken down again, I raked and bagged, since the two big maple trees are finally almost done dumping leaves. I also did some weeding, watering, and mulching. TSU trimmed plants and mowed - because, again, this is Florida, so even with the colder weather, it's not around long enough to stop the grass from growing.

TSU and I have tried both new SyFy series - Helix and Bitten. The latter was perfectly dreadful and I don't think I even got through the entire first episode. We gave Helix three episodes since it's got a decent production crew and actors, but just couldn't seem to care because it's simply not very good. It's just as well as we prefer to watch season two of Banshee at 10 pm on Friday anyway. The second season is every bit as gripping - and every bit as violent too - as season one was.

We're keeping up with HBO's latest Sunday night drama, True Detective, with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughy. It's bleak, but the story is keeping our interest so far. Last Sunday we checked out the premiere of Looking, which is something I'll probably keep up with that TSU doesn't so much care about. The first episode was a little slow, but I love the San Francisco backdrop and all the pretty gay boys, of course. Besides, Scott Bakula hasn't shown up yet - hopefully tonight. :) When I was out in San Francisco there were billboards everywhere promoting this series.

Last night we watched the premiere of Black Sails on Starz, and I think we'll definitely keep up with that one. It airs on a good night, because I normally don't watch anything on Saturdays unless one of the BBCA series we keep up with is airing - like Orphan Black, which hasn't come back yet (looking forward to it!). I think it will take me about six episodes to finally nail down who all the Black Sails characters are, though, because there are a lot of them. But I already think it's the best series on Starz that we've watched since Spartacus.

I was really looking forward to Greg Kinnear's new series Rake on FOX; but after watching the first episode Thursday night, I don't know, there's something about it that just didn't click with me or TSU. I'll probably give it a couple more episodes to see if I warm up to it.

I recorded the entire Klondike miniseries that aired last week on the Discovery channel (I think it was). We'll watch it sometime when we have time. That's the way we did it with the Bonnie and Clyde miniseries.

I gave up on Downton Abbey after last week, and I posted why in destina's LJ. One less series to worry about on Sunday nights.

I posted my squee for the finale of Sleepy Hollow at agt spooky's hang-out. A finale with a twist I honestly didn't see coming. That doesn't happen to me a lot anymore. Can't wait for season two! Sleepy Hollow has been one of my new happy places this season. :D

I managed to make it all the way through NBC's Dracula off the dvr each week. I doubt there will be a second season. It was okay, not great or even good, truth be told. Not really quite sure what they were going for there.

TSU and I are going out for mid-afternoon eats, so I'll end it here. Have a good one!
