Summer viewing habits

As of Saturday we became an Arbitron family, randomly picked. I didn't realize until we signed on that Arbitron factors into television ratings as well as radio, but I guess they compete with Nielsen on that level now.

Anyway, everyone in the ol' homestead - except for the dogs, rabbit, parakeets, and fish - are wired, so to speak, with little pager devices we wear all day long that don't pick up anything except radio and television signals, and can even determine when you're listening to cds or watching dvds rather than something off the dvr, and playing video games or listening to nothing at all. We all get paid a stipend each month that's dependent upon our level of usage, and we can stay in the program as long or short a time as we want. We'll see how it goes. But, FWIW, we're officially part of the solution, or problem as it were. Fear me. ;)

Gearing up for the return of the summer series, and glad to be done with the fall/spring shows we watch. You enjoy them - or not as the case may be - when they're airing, but at the end of the season, eh, it's enough already.

I've got a subscription to the TV Guide mag for the year courtesy of my mother's subscription that she had paid for shortly before she died, and is now coming to me. Which makes me sad every time it shows up in my mailbox, but it's more trouble than it's worth to haggle to get that little bit of money back. Anyway, the latest issue had a great pull-out 3-month insert showing when all the summer returning/new series are premiering, as well as the finales of spring cable series, so I admit that's kind of helpful.

This past Sunday The Glades returned for a second season on A&E. This is a series I checked out last year, drawn in by the fact that the story is set in Florida. I wasn't immediately sucked in so I didn't keep up; but then I started catching the replays A&E aired before the new season premiered and I got hooked. Plus, Matt Passmore is a sexy mo-fo, so it's a Must-See this year, even though it airs on the already over-crowded Sunday nights (luckily A&E has repeat showings).

Tonight White Collar and Covert Affairs return. I didn't like how things ended between my boys on WC at the end of last season - I hope the bromance isn't damaged. *sniff*

Sat, June 18, we will check out Outcasts on BBCA to see if it's something we want to keep up with. Even though I haven't seen the midseason finale of Doctor Who yet that airs on BBCA this Sat, I did read the reviews from folks who had, so I know the twist. Still, I want to see how it plays out.

FWIW, after all these years of living with a couple of DW fanatics, The Girl Child finally got sucked into the series with this season, and in particular due to Matt Smith's Doc. You always remember your first as the best. ;D Then she found out one of the girls she interns with at the museum is a DW fanatic, and now they talk DW and she's hell-bent on discovering the entire series. She even wants us to find our old Tom Baker scarf The Spousal Unit's Maternal Unit had knitted for us way back in the 80's. We're so proud - the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. *a tear*

Sun, June 19, Game of Thrones and The Killing finally air their season finales, which frees up our Sunday nights for The Glades and Spielberg's Falling Skies on TNT, which we've been looking forward to for months.

Thurs, June 23, we HAVE to check out the premiere of Wilfred on FX. The promos are whack! It's either going to be super brilliant or really stupid.

Sun, June 26, the night gets overcrowded again with the return of Leverage on TNT. Thank goodness for On-Demand, the dvr, and repeat airings.

Fri, July 8, Torchwood: Miracle Day on Starz - yay!

Mon, July 11, we're going to check out Alphas on SyFy to see if they do a better job with Heroes than NBC did.

Fri, July 15, Haven returns to SyFy. This little series seriously kicked it up toward the end of their first season, especially with a freaky little twist in the finale. Looking forward to seeing where they go from that point - plus, eye-fucking between Eric and Lucas FTW!

If I had Direct TV, I'd be psyched about another season of Damages starting Wed, July 13 - but I don't. I'll have to wait until it hits Netflix or dvd.
