Random synapses firing

It's hot. Too hot! Too hot in the hot tub! And last week we had almost too much rain. This week we need rain.

The Spousal Unit flies out tomorrow morning for a day long trip to Michigan and back. I hate it when he has to travel for work. I never get used to it, after all these years.

Those previews for the upcoming Flash Gordon series on the Sci Fi channel look every bit as painfully cheesy as the flick was. Exxxxxxxxxcellent. But I understand they won't be using the Queen music even though they're using it in the promos, which blows, man. You can't have a cheesy Flash Gordon series without the Queen theme music!

Tin Man looks way cool. Which reminds me - ezust and I have come to the conclusion that those "Made in Eureka" commercials might be real, and Eureka isn't just a TV show but an honest-to-goodness super-secret government project that's responsible for bending reality around us as we speak. Has to be, because that's the only explanation we can come up with for why Callum Keith Rennie would even consider attending a fan convention. I mean, seriously - Callum at a convention? Live, in front of people? Real people? He does understand that there will be people at this thing, and he will probably have to talk to them, doesn't he? Oh, my. Worlds colliding here. Of course, he could always bail on this commitment before it takes place; but if he actually shows, I'll be chomping at the bit, albeit nervously, waiting for folks to post their Callum news and pix! :)

I like that Eureka picked up pretty seamlessly where they left off last season, and that the entire cast is back for the second season. Yet I'm distressed about the dark change to Henry's characterization, with the festering grief and grudge he's apparently going to hold and nurse against Carter and Global Dynamics for Kim's death. I was glad that Carter had his memories erased, though, because it was getting uncomfortable seeing him trying to recreate the memories of his history with Allison, knowing what he could have and trying so desperately and embarrassingly to make it all fall into place like it did before. Of course, it was all doomed to fail precisely because of his and Henry's foreknowledge of that alternate future. So giving Carter a clean slate and a chance to develop a genuine relationship with Allison unencumbered by years of memories was a bit of a gift, even if that's not at all what Henry had intended when he was erasing Carter's memory and not his own. I only wonder how far they're going to take Henry to the edge of this darkness - all the way over? Is he going to become the bad guy this season?

ezust and I are both getting a little antsy for Jordan to come back to the forefront of the 4400 story line. It's great that they got Billy Campbell as a series regular this season, and a sweet deal for him to get paid for every episode even when he doesn't have to show up every week. But as a viewer, I want more Jordan Collier! OTOH, I like how they're setting up Shawn for an unwitting power struggle against Jordan, even though I'm disappointed that Kyle (like Henry) is going to get sucked over to the Dark Side. At least, that's where he seems to be headed, because I agree with Shawn, Jordan has no business handing out the Promicin in such an untested, haphazard, and dangerous fashion, with little regard for the damage it can and will cause. Jordan certainly does have himself quite the Messiah complex this season. I only wonder which side Isabelle will end up on when all is said and done.

I think ezust and I *squee*'d in unison long-distance when Shawn said "Jordan used me to raise money to build this place. Jordan used me for a lot of things." OMG, I'd almost forgotten how slashy the Jordan/Shawn relationship used to be until Shawn and Kyle were talking about what used to be in that scene. Seriously, A, I think they put that line in there just for you. LOL! ;D But, as I said to ezust, the boy's a man now, and well, he's just not that into Jordan anymore. ;)

I like the ability they gave to April, and I like how they wrapped up her story line, finally making her useful and independent and responsible for her own actions. Now she and Diana can have a real relationship, and Diana doesn't have to feel guilty about April all the time, or worry about what's happening with her. I always forget that the actress is the daughter of Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner until I see her name in the credits. She's as pretty as her mother was.

It looks like I'll have to add CW's ALIENS IN AMERICA to my fall viewing rotation, and I might even have to go back to dvr'ing DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. The things we do for our fav guys. ;) I mean, jeez, I don't even know what the hell is happening on DH anymore. I haven't watched the stupid show since the first season. Oy.

Question for The Dresden Files fans - does anyone know if the description here in the features release claiming "Original pilot episode" is the uncut pilot episode that Sci Fi didn't air; and if the episodes on this dvd are supposed to run in the order the producers intended them to air (not the fucked up way Sci Fi aired them)? Do I dare, going into it mostly unseen, except for a couple of episodes I caught entirely out of order, including what Sci Fi aired as the first episode?

dvd, ckr, eureka, the 4400
