they just keep getting better and better

I said I was gonna make a post about it, so here it is! I tried putting my thoughts in order, but they're kinda all over the place. Oh well.

✖ I don't know how they do it, but Level-5 always seems to find a way to make each new Professor Layton game better than the last. One of the best improvements was the memo function. I was ecstatic about it when they added it in the second game, but now they added an eraser and different colors - which made things SO MUCH BETTER. Working on puzzles didn't get nearly as confusing. The sprites were also a lot more animated and I love the introduction of puzzle battles. It just made things that much cooler.

✖ The soundtrack to the games is always awesome, but this has to be the best so far. My favorites were the background music to the puzzle battles, Chinatown, and when you're on your way to Clive's fortress. I'm definitely gonna download it!

✖ I'm not gonna lie - a big reason I wanted to play this game was to see Future!Luke, and I was not disappointed. He's so cool! Especially when they were escaping from the casino. I also love his voice~ I think I actually shrieked out loud when I found out he had a puzzle solving screen. I totally didn't expect it.

On that note, I was also surprised to see that Flora had a solving screen too. I liked that she was more present in this game, and I really liked that she gave Layton and Luke hell for leaving her behind.

✖ To be honest, I was kind of hoping that there was an evil Layton. I know it isn't in his character, but I think it would've been awesome. I wasn't expecting the evil Layton to actually be Dimitri Allen though. I did figure out however, the villain's motivation. I knew it as soon as Layton mentioned that the woman he saw couldn't have been Claire because of that accident 10 years ago. Whether it was really Layton or not, I knew that the villain wanted to complete the time machine in order to save her.

✖ I also knew that the Professor Layton that showed up at the entrance of the Pagoda wasn't the real one. It was also around that time that I started to suspect Future!Luke of some things. I did not expect that Layton to be Don Paolo though. His reveal freaked me out so much. Layton should never be seen with hair like that. I've also come to realize that I actually like Don Paolo now. He's very entertaining - it's cute that he and Layton were schoolmates. His concern for Flora is also pretty endearing.

✖ Going back to Claire, she and Layton are so cute oh my god. Layton blushing has to be one of the most adorable things ever. And when she was giving Layton the love letter? I think I got cavities, it was so sweet. I live for stuff like that ♥ Layton's a pretty suave guy~

✖ When the truth about the future London was revealed, I wanted to flip a table. I can't believe it was all fake. How big do those underground caverns have to be? I was so invested in the fact that they were in the future that I think my brain stopped for a second. It was almost as unbelievable as the reveal in the second game. Of course, this meant that Future!Luke wasn't actually Luke, so I was right to suspect him. As so as he was revealed to be Clive, I knew he was the boy Layton saw at the accident scene 10 years ago.

✖ From that point on, I think I had tears in my eyes. I still don't really like Dimitri, but his flashback about Claire was so sad. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I found the person I love dead like that. And then when Clive started to have a breakdown and was knocked unconscious, I honestly thought he was going to die. He was so remorseful, I couldn't help but feel bad for him.

✖ When Celeste was revealed to be Claire, I was really really hoping for a happy ending where they end up together - even though I knew it couldn't happen. When Layton started calling out for Claire and begging her not to go, I started getting all teary-eyed. And then he started crying, which made me cry. Then he TOOK OFF HIS HAT and looked up at the sky, I lost it. I was just flat-out sobbing. It was just so sweet and touching and sad.

✖ Luke's leaving was also pretty sad too. Especially when Layton told him that a true gentleman doesn't make a scene in public and Luke cries that he isn't a gentleman yet. I wanted to give him a hug ;_;

I can't wait for the next game~!

As a side note, I think I before the title being "The Unwound Future" rather than "The Last Time Travel". I just think it fits a lot better in context, especially with Claire and Layton.

wall of text, i'm all over the place, professor layton, fangirling
