#487 - balloonhat - Tree Pangolin

After analyzing, making lists to count ways in which each awesome animal was pro like me, and agonizing, it came down to choosing between "I Am A Balled-Up Walking Pine Cone" and "Banana-Stealing Sweet Monkey-Raccoon," and, well, when articulated that way, I am definitely a balled-up walking pine cone. So to speak.

Just like the Tree Pangolin, I am a solitary, nocturnal sort of creature whose habits and preferences make it hard to FIND me, never mind befriending me. They are elusive, just like me, and most folks haven't even heard of the before, just, er, like me. I'm quite the noted "loner," who is quite happy doing my own thing on the fringes of social spaces, so more often than not, people don't realize I'm there until I choose to speak up or get involved.

The Tree Pangolin, like all its Pangolin relatives, is covered in scales made of keratin - they're little armored termite-eaters - which is very important for their defense. When threatened, or even when just sleeping, Pangolins roll up into a ball to protect their un-armored underside; their plates are razor-sharp too, so I imagine that trying to hold onto one is somewhat difficult. Like them, my best offense is my great defense: I am intensely private because of how sensitive I am, so my "walls" are really layers to protect my vulnerability against the world, especially during times of depression, bad news and jerks. However, mother Pangolins roll around their babies to protect them, and that's also like me; when I protect the ones I love, I defend them vigorously and shield them as best as I can.

Tree Pangolins are master insectivores. Armed with incredibly sharp claws and digging skills, they're able to excavate through anything to get at food, even if it means hanging upside down to scratch at tree bark - much like how I am when I am seeking information, even for the sake of curiosity! Notably, although I could not find a source for this bit, the problem-solving area of the brain in Pangolins is well-developed, which also makes them potential escape artists in captivity, and I too am a decent problem-solver ESPECIALLY when it comes to escaping uncomfortable environments.

The Tree Pangolin is a versatile animal: it can walk on all fours (on its knuckles because its claws are so long) or waddle on its hind legs (using its tail for balance); it can climb trees, though not so high that my fear of heights kicks in, using its prehensile tail for a "fifth" limb; it can even swim passably well if it must. This is very important to me, for while the Tree Pangolin is not an absolute master of one environment, it can still manage to make its way without help and explore as it pleases.

#488 - crazed_delusion - King Penguin

I was really going back and forth between the beaver and the penguin. I finally decided upon the King penguin because I have always been very attached to birds and to penguins especially.

First the King Penguin lives in the perfect temperature for me. They live on subartic islands so the temperature is very cool going into freezing, and i would much rather be cold than hot.

I have always been happy in any invironment that I am in and these penguins are the same as they easily go between both water and land. Also have you ever seen a penguin walk? It's adorable, and I know toboganing would be absolutely awesome, I would slide all over the place all the time.

Also, they keep their young with them for up to sixteen months, which is much longer then most birds. I am a very nurturing caretaker so holding on and caring for my young for that long would be like me.

Overall I feel this animal is perfect for me so it was what I had to choose, plus I already had an icon of a baby king penguin in my livejournal icons, so it had to be fate.

#489 - equally_skilled - Sun Bear

At first my choices didn't make a lot of sense to me- they all seemed very different from each other. I was pretty concerned that none of them would fit me, but I'm happy to say that's not the case! After reading up on all of my choices, I decided to go with the Sun Bear. They are adorable, they don't eat intestines, they can swim but also live in trees/earth, and they are pigeon toed. Okay, honestly the pigeon toed bit was the final deciding factor. I have been pigeon toed as long as I can remember, and it's always been something that bothered me. It's cute that I found an animagus who has it without even putting that as a criteria. I like that they can swim, but also survive on land, because I would be a sad lady if I couldn't swim. Their petite size was also a factor, because I don't want to be some giant lurker bear that you see in movies. They're cute and small, but still a bear so they can intimidate people, which makes me happy. I also like that it's a bear- I know they can and will protect those that they love, and that's really important to me. I'm definitely a "family person", and I think of bears in a similar way. Overall, the sun bear seemed to be a clear winner for me in terms of an animagus form!

#490 - darlingbones - Red Fox

I choose not to put the animal I felt drawn or connected to in my application as I have always felt my spirit animal was the fox and the curious person that I am wanted to see what other thought without completely swaying them!

Foxes throughout story, myth and history have been the tricksters. They are wise but devious and often only looking after their own interests. The foxes of old are the creatures I have always felt in tune with, I am mischievous, intelligent and self serving. But identifying with the symbolism of a creature isn't quite enough for me, I am also like the Red Fox itself.

Red Foxes are mainly monogamous and live in a mated-pair led group, I am engaged, loyal & my partner and I are a central spoke of our friend circle. They have a beautiful red pelt and I have always been very proud of being a redhead too! Foxes have expressions that can be read and I have a very animated face, they are known to be inquisitive, just as I am curious.

Red Foxes are adaptable, swift and not afraid of a fight, all traits I too share. I feel like becoming a Red Fox animagus would like be putting on a second skin. While I live in NZ there are no Foxes here I would be stand out and exotic but when I travel I could blend in just fine, unique but useful. And, with a magnificent tail!

#491 - tsukkomi_boke - Vizsla

As I saw my choices, at first I didn’t know what to pick. But when I read what Sonja said and when I looked at the wiki entry I felt that the Vizsla was a good choice for me. Since I am a Puff, we’re known for our loyalty and I would say that I am pretty loyal and these dogs are pretty loyal to so I think that is a perfect match. (Another perfect match is our hair color, lol). It says that they are high energy and I am most of the time myself pretty high energy, though sometimes it is more internal and not everyone can see that. Like the Vizsla, I’m also pretty gentle and I am very caring. I do whatever for my friends and I also do community service around my community to help out my community. They are also quiet dogs that hardly bark and I’m also a quiet person. I usually don’t speak up in class or in groups or whatever and when I do talk I am always really quiet. Very rarely do I yell or raise my voice. Also like the Vizsla, I am a pretty smart cookie. I’ve always done well in school and I think I did mention or if I didn’t, I did want an intelligent animal. Plus it has several of the features that I was looking for in my Animagus form, such as being able to run fast! \o\

#492 - sanalith - Norwegian Fjord Horse

I've chosen the Norwegian Fjord Horse for my new animagus form. This was a tough decision, but I've always felt very connected to horses, so I feel like this is a good selection. It's a smaller horse, which fits in with my small human height, and - being native to Norway - it enjoys the cold and grows a very thick coat, which I will absolutely enjoy.

What I love most about this horse is its versatility. It's not only strong and able to pull heavy loads, it's also very agile and is perfectly capable of being an excellent riding horse. By not being locked into one specific function, this form provides me with many opportunities to utilize it. The horse's temperament is also very similar to mine, being very easy-going and gentle. They are also considered to be intelligent and fast-learning horses, as well as very willing workers, which are definitely traits I value.

As a historian, I also feel connected to this horse because it is one of the oldest breeds still in existence, as its ancestors came to Norway over 4,000 years ago after the first ice age. They were used by Vikings - which is a definite bonus, considering the Ravenclaw mascot! - and can be seen on the coat of arms of several Norwegian cities.

This is a very strong, proud animal with a rich history and excellent personality. I am definitely excited about adopting it as my new form.

#494 - lovestyle - Dachshund

In picking my animagus, I considered a lot of different things-- in my application, it's true that I mentioned water quite a bit, but there were other, more subtle things about my likes, dislikes, and personality that I really wanted to convey. It was a very close choice between the dachshund and the California sea otter, but ultimately, when it came down to it, I had to follow what I knew deep in my heart and pick the dachshund.

For starters, a dachshund does not mind water. Its webbed paws, used for moving a lot of dirt fast, also make it a decent swimmer. It does not live in the water, but it enjoys a nice swim in a lake, pool, or even on the seaside, which is identical to me. It's a land animal, however, and loves rolling in a good patch of grass, which fits well with my desire to go romping across the English countryside for some fun exploration.

Temperament-wise, the dachshund and I are nearly identical. Dachshunds are known for their very exclusive loyalty, their rich personalities, and their stubbornness. Like a dachshund, I will bond to very few people-- in fact, I can list on one hand the amount of people I enjoy being around for extended periods of time. Just like the dachshund, this doesn't mean I don't enjoy or am not genial to a good amount of people-- this just means that when it comes down to it, I'm happiest with who I consider my "family." And just like a dachshund, I will protect those people to the very end. Similar to the way many people seem surprised at the volume of a dachshund's bark, many peoples' first impression of me is that of someone who is quiet, thoughtful, polite, and unoffensive. But, if you press my buttons by threatening my "people," you're going to find out that I can actually be the opposite of ALL of those things.

One personality trait that a typical dachshund exudes is boldness. I think I've got plenty of this. Though I'm most often nice about it, I am always honest about the way I feel about things-- good or bad. You can always expect me to tell the truth, which is sometimes hard for others, thus why I believe myself to be bold. Dachshunds, too, are known to be comical-- they are clownish and love to see their "people" amused. If there's one rule I abide by, it's humor-- I use laughter to help my people through life, because a laugh can make a person's whole day. These dogs are also stubborn, notorious for behaving opposite the way you'd like when training them. As someone who tends to resist authority whose reasoning behind acting is "because I told you so," I can definitely say that I've got a strong stubborn streak in me-- I'm going to do things because I want to, not because you tell me to. … and just like a dachshund, if you want to break my stubborn streak, you can tempt me with food. I'm not one to turn down a tasty morsel too often.

Lastly, revisiting an earlier sentiment, I am intensely attached to my "people." If I don't get to see them or interact with them for very long, I go insane. I need the people in my life to remain a constant. I've had people confess their undying faith in our friendship to me before-- I believe this is because I will literally follow a person to the ends of the earth, if possible. I enjoy being loved and accepted for who I am, and if you can do that with me, I will shower you with affection and love for the rest of your life.

#495 - xohxmyxjonas - Sand Cat

When I looked at my choices, my immediate thought was that I loved the Sand cat. I went through and researched all four of my choices but I kept coming back to the Sand cat and that is what I'm choosing. When I first filled out my application, I tried to add as much detail as I could but I knew that I didn't give people a lot to work with. The Sand cat is exactly what I would have chosen for myself.
I like that the Sand cat lives in the warm weather but don't ever stay in the flat desert (something that I never mentioned in my application but did think of). They have a specific home that is their home but they journey around and sometimes change homes with other Sand cats. Like the Sand cat, I am very solitary but sometimes join others. I am incredibly independent and could live very well on my own.
The Sand cat even resembles me in looks, considering they have sandy yellow hair. There are red lines on their cheeks which, for my markings, I chose to continue up around my eyes like my glasses. I think that the Sand cat is a beautiful creature.
Like I mentioned in my application, I like that the Sand cat is not the normal prey so I won't have to watch my back very much. They don't fight, instead trying to keep away from those who would hunt them. The Sand cat sleeps most of the day and is much more active during the night, much like I am.

#496 - malicat - Guadeloupe raccoon

After my first "BUT I WANTED A CAT" disappointed and doing some research on the four choices,I decided that the Guadeloupe raccoon is the right fit for me. First of all, raccoons are cute and I’ve been told that I am cute so the other three options felt a bit short there. Raccoons are not tall and neither am I. Guadeloupe raccoons are even smaller than the common raccoons and have short legs. In addition,my glasses are black and white and with a little bit of fantasy they resemble a raccoon’s facial mask. So there are definitely similarities looks wise. Raccoons are also known for their poor long distance vision which unfortunately I have as well. Even more important in my eyes is that raccoons may look cute but can be kind of a pain in the ass. I won’t go rumaging around in waste containers to look for food or something like that but my cute façade can be deceiving ^^
As I wrote in my application,I’m not the most social person but I do enjoy meeting other people and having relationships. Newer studies have shown that raccoons are not completely solitary (as previously thought) but that related females build smaller groups. Which I can very much relate to. I always prefer smaller groups to bigger ones and especially groups of people I am related to in some way (family or friends).
And the most important thing: raccoons are nocturnal and so am I,more or less.

#497 - petit_rhino - Red Ruffed Lemur

It was not an easy decision as I didn't see a perfect species fit immediately. I looked at 2 criteria:
1. what do I want to use my animagus form for? 2. what animal resembles me most in terms of personality and habits?

1. I want to be able to do things I can't do as a human and to move about undetected.
While seeing a Lemur walking around the street might be a bit odd, Lemurs can climb and are great leapers. They're small enough to sneak into places I couldn't as a human. They have a really cool tail.

2. Here are some characteristics that I have in common with the Red Ruffed Lemur in terms of personality and habits:
- it loves to climb trees but are also comfortable on the ground
- it has a strongly developed sense of smell
- it works in teams when the situation requires it
- it's quite intelligent and understands maths
- it eats lots of fruits
- it especially likes figs
- it is most active in the morning and evening
- it can live in groups of 2 to 30 individuals
- when foraging for fruit, individuals can go their separate ways (if fits with my need to spend time alone while enjoying living in a group)

Having the animagus form of a Red Ruffed Lemur is very different from becoming a Red Ruffed Lemur living in the wild. For example, Lemurs live in the rainforests of Madagascar and I'm not too fond of hot and humid climate. But I'm sure the Red Ruffed Lemur's thick fur will keep me warm enough in a more temperate climate.

Other things made me choose this species:
Individual personalities of Red Ruffed Lemurs can vary a lot: independence, boldness, shyness... Lemurs are evolved and intelligent enough that I would keep a sense of self when transfiguring into one.

I like to have a sense of purpose in life. I appreciate the fact that in the wild Lemurs play an important role in pollinating flowers and dispersing seeds.

Red Ruffed Lemurs can grip objects in their hand. I quite like having opposable thumbs.

Though they don't live in the same areas as black-and-white ruffed lemurs in the wild, when put close together in captivity, they communicate together. They seem to understand each other like we do a foreign language. Being bilingual (French / English) plays an important role in my life so it's something I can relate to.

I did a lot of research to come to this conclusion, asked people who know me well and watched a lot of videos. However the final decision doesn't come from a list of pros and cons but to whether it 'feels' right. My gut / that little voice inside my head says it does.

#498 - surmise - Clouded Leopard

I had a lot of trouble picking out my animagus. Each option that was given to me was absolutely wonderful and it epitomized my personality/myself in different ways. In the end, I decided to choose the clouded leopard, because after taking the time to read through all the wikipedia pages of the chosen animals (and the reasons behind the choices, left by the voters), I felt most at home with the clouded leopard in general. This may also have to do with the fact that two voters actually chose this animal for me, which made me consider it more.

Though I didn't go out of my way to research all the animals, just from reading the wikipedia pages gave me a general sense of what I wanted to find. All of the animals themselves, as stated before, are very fit choices for me and it sort of makes me sad that I can only choose one. Regardless of this fact, I felt like the clouded leopard was the most in-tune with what I wanted when re-reading my application. It has grace and beauty, the pattern on the fur completely aesthetically pleasing (which is always a plus in my book), a predator and fierce for it's size. They are also very nocturnal animals and make good use of their environments: like using the tree branches as ambush spots.

However, a big aspect of why I chose this animal was that there is very little that is known about them in their natural, wild habitat. The characteristics and other things that we know about this feline is all based on the leopards that are in captivity, which goes along with the clouded leopard being very secluded and "private". I can see this as a lot of myself. I portray myself as an open book to my fellow HiHers and to my lovely snakes, but I never really delve into intimate facts about my life. I give you enough to see the outer layers of who I am, give you quick flashes of what's underneath the underneath, but never let you come too close to see what really goes on.

#499 - takeheart - Leafy Seadragon

I loved all of my options, and had some difficulty choosing! In the end, though, I feel like the Leafy Seadragon is the best fit for me.

I'm first drawn to the Leafy Seadragon on the basis of its physical appearance. It's such a stunning and unique creature in the marine landscape. I love its ability to camouflage itself easily into weedy aquatic surroundings, as I sometimes find myself wanting to hide away when certain situations become overwhelming. I enjoy having the option of either showing off and flaunting my appearance, or retreating stealthily. That adds to the sense of safety that is important to me as someone who deals with fairly extreme degrees of anxiety.

I really admire the grace that Leafy Seadragons possess. Their movements are so slight and fluid that you can't really anticipate where they'll end up next. This is something I aspire to in my own life - I enjoy keeping people on their toes! You have to look at the Leafy Seadragon in really close proximity to understand how it operates, which is similar to the way that I conduct my life and friendships.

I've always loved marine life and felt safe in the water, so an aquatic creature is definitely the right fit for me. The Leafy Seadragon lives in the warm waters off the coast of Australia, which seems like a very soothing environment to me. Since I would like to be able to use my animagus form to escape the "real world" a little bit, this is an ideal habitat.

Lastly, I really enjoy the fact that it's the male seadragons who are responsible for carrying the young! As someone with an avid interest in women's issues and gender studies, I love watching creatures in the wild flip gender roles entirely on their head.

#500 - leadsisters - Nightingale

It was a hard choice between the nightingale and the mocking bird. I'm very fond of both species for different reason, in the end I decided to go with the nightingale.

I love the fact nightingale's sing at night and even during the day, but the whole fact they are called nightingale's kind of points to them singing mostly at night, seeing as night time is my favorite time of the day it was only logical to choose the nightingale instead of the mocking bird.

Another reason why I love nightingale's is because they're often the subjects of poetry and fairy tales. By fairy tales I'm of course refering to Disney's sleeping beauty and the song, 'sweet, sweet Nightingale' It was the first thing that came to mind when I read the Nightingale was one of my animagus choices.

In poems the Nightingale is often called a poet in its own right and as a master of a superior art that could inspire the human poet. Doesn't that just sound awesome? I think it does, especially because I'm very fond of the arts and even though I don't consider myself 'master of a superior art', I do love the fact Nightingale's represent a superior art to poets and other artists.

In appearance the Nightingale and I don't really resemble each other much, other than the fact we both have strong facial pattern's. Meaning there are some parts in my face and that of a Nightingale's that could be considered original to us both.

I loved most of my choices, but I think the Nightingale and I would get along best ^^!

#501 - yasonablack - Ocelot

I decided on the Ocelot as it’s a land animal who doesn’t avoid water and as someone who prefers land but doesn’t mind water and seeks it out sometimes, it seemed to fit rather well. The markings of the ocelot are both good for standing out in appearance, and yet good for camaflouge at other times. They also go into trees to stalk monkeys which fits very well with my need or want to sneak around. Their fur is also in different shades, and the reddish-brown shade would mimic my red hair and still stand out and be appealing.

The ocelot is solitary and nocturnal. I prefer night over day and I do not care for large amounts of people. Ocelots also will sometimes share their spot in the trees with a member of their same sex (occasionally) and as I prefer my own sex this seems to fit rather well.

The ocelot has sharp teeth and claws and will fight to the death which is similar to my human characteristics and also fits quite well. They are also rather adaptable and even adapt to human habitats and as someone who is adaptable to new situations and places to live, this also fits quite well.

At first I wasn’t certain if the ocelot fit me, it did seem gorgeous, beautiful, and deadly, but the more I read about the ocelot the more it made sense. Heck, Ocelots don’t even bother to chew their food before eating it and I forget to do that too! XD

#502 - huushiita - Mimic Octopus

As soon as I saw the results, I knew immediately that I wanted the mimic octopus. Octopus are pretty cool, and this particular species is just badass. In researching, every time I learned something new, my eyebrows raised higher and higher! I love being in the water, and I love swimming. The mimic does that all the time!

This octopus can mimic over fifteen different species! As well, the colour changes from brown/black spots on a white/beige skin (some of the pics are really hard to tell) to a solid black, to yellow and red rings, among others. It also alters how it behaves. This vulnerable sea creature changes its shape so that it swims and undulates across the sea bottom, as how a flounder would.

Like an octopus, I can be very vulnerable and I usually end up hiding or running away when trouble appears. It would come in handy if I can squeeze through a tiny hole in order to get away, if this was my animagus. One thing I learned awhile ago, is octopus can fit through very, very small holes. Also, octopus use a cloud of ink as a defensive mechanism, in order to dart away safely. Lion fish have poison on the ends of their fins, so when the octopus 'becomes' the lion fish it shares the fishes protection.

I will say that I am able to 'mimic' people's attitudes fairly well. My speech patterns, influctuations, tone of voice, and even accent may change depending on who I am talking to. I pick up slang, or use more 'business' like words depending on the situation. If I'm scared, I try to hide, and if that doesn't work, I try and change my demeanor to look more tough.

Overall, I am in love with this choice, and feel that it is the best animagus form I can have.

#503 - madame_sheep - Leopard Seal

I’m very excited that the leopard seal was one of the forms that were presented to me, and it is indeed the one I choose, even though it was a harder decision than I had initially anticipated! I feel like I have a lot of traits in common with the Leopard Seal. We are both mostly solitary creatures. Leopard seals are only known to socialize in groups during the mating season. The Leopard Seal and I are also very similar in the fact that we are protective of those dear to us. Leopard Seal mothers are known to protect their young until they are old enough to fend for themselves completely. I also found it really cool that most Leopard Seal pups are born between November and January, whereas my birthday is in mid-November. Dorky fact, but still.
Leopard seals, like me, are very clumsy on land because they have large front-flippers. I’m horribly accident-prone. Like, I can’t even walk in a straight line properly. But when I’m in the water, it’s like I’m home. I feel graceful and secure and as if I could swim forever. It’s much better than tripping all over yourself all the time, that’s for sure.
I also love that the Leopard Seal is such a strong animal. It has almost no predators in the wild besides the occasional Orca. It makes me feel so much more comfortable knowing that my animagus form would be able to take care of myself and not have to constantly watch my back. Even if I wasn’t in my natural habitat, as long as I was near water, I think I’d be okay. The Leopard seal is capable of swimming relatively fast and able to pull off some pretty sharp movements. I’d like to see ANYONE try to catch that.
I was very excited with all of my choices, but I think the Leopard Seal and I would get along quite swimmingly. (Pun completely intentional)

#504 - cardiacattack - Cinnamon Bear

This was such a hard decision for me as I really felt some connection to each option. I want to thank everyone who voted for coming up with such excellent choices! In the end, I had to go with the Cinnamon Bear.
I was deterred by the bear at first because it's so large, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to be stealthy. This is not necessarily, true, however, as a bear would look very non-suspicious in the areas I would frequent. A bear is also very large and exceptionally powerful, so there would be very few predators that could intimidate me. A bear has every physical characteristic I wanted: I'd be able to swim, climb, run, hide, travel. I especially love that this bear doesn't hibernate, so there would be few restrictions on my energy level. My biggest fear about adventuring in my human form is not being safe. The Cinnamon Bear completely absolves these fears and would give me the freedom to go almost anywhere I wanted on my own! The bear is also equal parts adorable and ferocious, so I'd feel confident in this shape. The bear also has a similar temperament to my own, being a more solitary animal.
On a more personal note, I've related to bears since I was a child. I have numerous stuffed bears that I've bought as souvenirs from my real-life travels, and they remain some of my most valued possessions. Bears are always one of my favorite animals to visit in zoos, or hope top glimpse in the wild (though that last one is more wishful thinking, as the bear is kind of scary). I'm not too proud to admit that I have three favorite bears that still sleep on my bed with me, in addition to numerous others I keep on my shelf in my room. My boyfriend's nickname for me is actually "bear" and when I read that a bear was one of my choices I laughed a little because of this. It just seemed to be the perfect option! I've always considered the bear to be one of my favorite animals, and I would be proud to take on its form as an animagus.

#505 - koyaaniisqatsi - German Shepherd

Even though I was given four choices, I knew I'd pick the German Shepherd form from the very beginning. For over six years I have believed in the theory of dæmons (Socrates/Jungian concept). A dæmon is basically you and I’ve come to view mine as both a reflection of my soul and a mental construct (aka: a link to my subconscious). I’ve been settled as a German Shepherd dæmian for the majority of those six years and I believe it is truly the animal that represents me the best, and therefore would be the perfect animagus form.

First off, I am a dog person through and through and have always felt close to canines, particularly the large ones. The German Shepherd dæmon analysis states that those with such a form have a mostly cheerful and easy-going personality. Bad thoughts can get pushed aside because a pleasant mood is more preferable. Hyper is not the right word for me but I store a lot of energy and can choose when to let it all out. I can get rather impatient, always wanting to know what’s going on around me and it’s most annoying when I think people are talking about me, yet won’t tell me what’s happening until the last minute.

I’m very devoted to my friends, family and interests. I’m also protective of those things and get very upset if someone says anything negative about them. I do not hesitate to get up in someone’s face if they talk down about a loved one. If I don’t react in this manner, I feel ashamed. My aggression/temper can bloom, but I want to put up a front to guard my emotions. German Shepherds are both reliable and faithful, which are two good words to describe me. I like to make others happy. I’m not keen on little tasks but I’ll go that extra mile when it’s useful to another.

German Shepherds thrive on challenging activities and feel all the more proud and pleased when they finish something that took hours or even days. I’m an exceptionally versatile person and an effective learner. At times I have a stern and imposing countenance without meaning to, but when the look is intentional it is obviously so. People aren’t likely to know what I’m really feeling until I open my mouth. A hidden personality trait of German Shepherds is that they are quite rowdy and enjoy upbeat noise and busy social gatherings. I enjoy fun, wild afternoons and create my own crazy activities if I’m bored enough. I take notice of items and sights nearby. I’m observant by nature and able to find interest in little things. The type that goes around a store looking and touching everything.

When presented with the options for my animagus form, I felt there would be no better fit than the Fisher.

Physically, this animal fits my human form. It is quite long and slender, which mirrors my tall frame. The markings I have chosen for my animal are found on Fishers in the wild and mimic my own physical characteristics. They also have unusually large feet, but lets not give too much detail...

Personality wise, Fishers have a fierce mannerism that differentiates them from many other animals. They are defenders of their own property, and will not take any funny business from other animals. Just like me, the Fisher seems to be a blunt animal that stands up for what it believes in. I am passionate about things close to me, as is the fisher.

The Fisher is a crepuscular animal. This means that they are most active during the dawn and dusk hours of the day. I am a morning person that generally works the best during the early mornings. I love having the rest of the day available to myself after all of my hard work is completed. I also feel productive during the evening hours and often get my second wind around dusk.

Fishers have the ability to swim and climb (as do I) yet spend the majority of their time with their feet planted firmly on the ground. Fishers live in a variety of temperatures, but never in climates that are too warm. I, like the majority of Fishers, prefer cold weather to warm, and are most happy in the temperate climate.

Lastly, the social behaviour of fishers is extremely similar to my own. Fishers travel in small, close knit groups or alone. I prefer to be alone in most circumstances and I am only comfortable in social situations in which I am familiar with the other participants.

A fisher is socially, physically and behaviourally similar to my human form in many ways. With these major similarities between myself and the fisher, it seems that there would be no better animagus form for me!

#507 - Eiremauve - Bobcat

I chose the bobcat, for many reasons. First off, I am a cat person, always have been. I love their beauty and curiosity. Bobcats have the classic cat grace and seem to have the traditional cat curiosity. I love that the bobcat is the smallest member of the lynx family, you might say that I'm one of the smallest members of the human family. They are most active at sunrise and sunset, the same as me. Like me, bobcats are very solitary and defend their territory.I am very shy and it can take a while to get to know me. I am fairly adaptable, and so is the bobcat, it is not picky about what kind of meat it eats and lives in in such diverse places as Florida and Maine, but loves the woods best, and I love forests. They can swim and climb trees, although apparently they are less inclined to do that than their cousins, they can do it, and that's one of the things that I love about cats, they can go everywhere. Like most cats, they are graceful and both sleep a lot and then move fast when hunting (I saw a vidoe of bobcat dodging a rattlesnake, which is awesome), and I am very sedentary some of the time but sometimes I will randomly decide to move quickly. Bobcats are also excellent jumpers, which I love.

#508 - slumber - Mountain Coyote

I have to say that I didn't expect to pick the Mountain Coyote at first, but upon reading about it I found that it was impossible to pick a different animal for myself.

The first thing that caught my attention about it is learning that they used to be diurnal animals, but have since adapted to nocturnal behavior with pressure from humans. For one thing, I already have a bias towards animals that can do this; for another, I can relate to this as well. I used to be diurnal, but when most of my friends turned out to live on the other side of the world, I actually became more nocturnal as a result. Now, I'm back to being a morning person, but again, that's a product of my circumstances and can change based on changes in my situation. They also change their diet based on what's available, and I've been known to say on more than one occasion that I'll eat anything. I'm really not a picky eater and it tickles me to find that the coyotes are the same.

The second thing that drew me to the mountain coyote is reading about how it is able to adapt evolutionarily to its situation. For all intents and purposes coyotes should be an endangered species, but for some reason they thrived instead. They've even managed to become common around urban and suburban areas, which I love because I was torn between a wild form and one that wouldn't be out of place around people.

Finally, I love that the mountain coyotes can be found in such a wide range of land, from Western Canada down to Arizona. I'm a fairly adventurous person and I like to travel, and while I did not mention it in my application I think it speaks a great deal about the coyote's suitability with my personality that we match even in that regard. There was even a coyote found all the way in New York, where it managed to live in Central Park for two days before being captured. The coyote had been noted as being adventurous and curious, two traits that I relate to. I also found myself ridiculously amused when reading about a coyote that managed to enter a Quizno's in Chicago (where I live, and I believe I know which specific Quizno's this was...) during lunch hour--I have this tendency to surprise people who are just starting to get to know me, and I thought that was somewhat apt for my Animagus form.

In conclusion, I couldn't be happier with all the choices I received, but I would have to say that in the end, I can't think of a more fitting animal to be than the coyote. There's even a hockey team named after them.

#509 - everythingshiny - Hawksbill Sea Turtle

I choose this turtle because while I adore the seahorse and ray, the turtle is much more adaptable to an animagus form. I can easily go in and out of the water when I feel the need, without dying, basically. The turtle has a hard shell which goes a long way for protection and despite reputation they move rather fast, especially in the water. Being able to swim would be beneficial to getting me out of a sticky situation when water is near.

This animal is seen on the shores of New Zealand, which his where I call home. Its important for me to fit in without looking ridiculous on my home turf.

The Turtle has a hard shell and looks like a grumpy old man which suits me well - I can be grumpy and rude sometimes when you first get to know me. I enjoy my home time and have always been a little drawn to animals with shells (snails, turtles) and the concept that they always have a “home”.

Finally, I had to choose an animal that swims. I feel at home in the water, and the turtles stick close to the equator which is lovely and warm. I found this to be a hard decision because each animal chosen for me fits me well in different ways. The turtle makes an excellent choice for animagus.

#510 - baldie_troll - Rook

This decision was very difficult to make as although the Rook immediately popped out at me the explanations given for the Golden Eagle and Heron were extremely persuasive. In the end I ended up going with my gut decision and choosing the Rook.

The Rook and I share a knack for being able to understand problems and how to solve them. They are well documented on their ability to devise and use tools including using stones and wire. This also spills over into both our curious natures.

Rooks are often seen enjoying autumn winds. This is my favourite type of weather and my favourite time of year. I love the wind rushing past me and that the Rook also delights in this type of weather makes me feel very connected to them.

Solitary Rooks are also often known to talk to themselves uttering clicks and wheezes. I can relate to this very well as I am often caught talking, muttering or humming to myself.

Rooks repeatedly reuse the same nest year after year unlike many birds who construct new ones. I can relate well to this as at 22 I still live at home. This sedentary lifestyle is also reflected in my having no desire to travel, I am perfectly content to live in the city I grew up in.
