It's been a while since I've posted anything over here. I've missed some of the interactions that only happen on LJ, but overall most of that action had dwindled anyway.
I can only see approximately the latest 30 posts of all my friends. If I visit individual friend's LJs, I can see the last 10 or so posts from them. I guess it's just one of LJ's quirks. I imagine if I had a paid account that would change.
I noticed that the last project I posted about here was the sketchbook project. So much has happened since then! I've taken an online painting class, gotten into using Acryla gouache, experimented with colored pencils as more than just a sketching tool, had my first ever solo-exhibition in public, completed a month-long painting giveaway preceding my birthday, and am currently working with the plants in my garden to find inspiration.
I spend most of my social internet time on twitter of all places. I've found it to be the best place to connect with other creatives, which was something I was really yearning for--creative community. I hadn't considered being able to find that online, but I'm happy that I have!
I've dipped a toe into the world of mail art with some of my new twitter buddies. Mail art is basically like having an artsy pen-pal. There are no rules about what to send, but so far, I've sent & received little works of art, stickers, papers, stamps, origami, and more. It's fun to get fun mail in the mail box, but I admit I'm terrible at response times. Often a month or more will go by before I get it together and actually send my replies.
Also through twitter I'm embarking on my first ever collaboration with an awesome artist who likes to draw animals. She really enjoys my patterns, and came up with a fun way for us to combine our styles--in two little sketchbooks that we'll mail back & forth until they are full and then we each keep one of them.
I've been much more consistent about updating my
art blog now that I've started to take on personal projects to help keep me focused on making art consistently.
Anyway, just thought I'd stop by and write a little update about my life lately.
I'm home alone for the next 5 weeks, so you know what that means: paaaaaaartyyyy!!!
