Snow Day in Portland

Dec 20, 2008 20:48

It has been snowing all day. It actually started yesterday afternoon. The snowflakes were big and puffy, creating a perfect, romantic atmosphere.

I decided to go see a movie by myself last night. I saw Zack and Miri Make a Porno. It was ok. I left trying to think of how I would describe my experience, but all I could come up with was, "ok". So after the ok movie I walked around in the romantic snow and took photos of window displays on NW 23rd St.

Today the snow has been falling pretty heavily, and it's still very pretty, but not entirely idyllic like yesterday. The snow is now deep enough that it's piled on top of everything that will hold it; cars that haven't budged since yesterday, bare tree branches, fire hydrants, the top edges of fences. I can't even make out the edge of the curbs anymore. The snow is packed down on the roads from the few cars that are out on the road, but not a bit of asphalt peeks through.

I went for a walk today. My task was to send some cookies to my brother Bill and to my sister in law Kathleen. They both requested cookies when I twittered that I was in the process of making them. They asked and they shall receive. The line at the post office was crazy, but it moved fairly quickly.

Cookies sent, I wandered around the city for a while. I took photos of the snow and of some interesting walls.

A guy called down to me from a balcony, "I'm working on my trust issues. If I jumped would you catch me." I said, "only if you are lucky." I'm not really talented at coming up with good, off the cuff "zings". Another lady passed by me and said, "You've been here too long." I have no idea what she was talking about, or why she said that to me. Yet another lady looked at me with a big smile and said, "hi". That was probably the weirdest of the bunch.

I stopped by Trader Joe's on the way back to get some tomato soup, and of course I was kind of hungry, so I ended up buying a lot of other stuff that I don't really need. Dried tart cherries, cheese tortellini, and blood orange soda just sounded so good; though not mixed together.

I came back, cooked my soup and ate it while watching a Doris Day movie that my mom sent me recently.

I think my roommate might have thought I was gone because she is here with a guy, and they listening to really dorky music while talking about "serious stuff" in the room next to mine.

It's just past 9 and all I want to do is turn off the lights, crawl under the covers and watch the snow falling outside.
