Busy Slow Day

Today's been one of those days.  A little bit busy, a little bit slow.

Started off with a leisurely run to the recycling place with bags of aluminum and some other odds-and-ends metal to drop off.  Only walked away with a few cents over $20 -- about half of what I usually got back when the economy was stronger.  Especially sucks since I always donate the money to my chorus (the WCCC).

After that, I headed over to Cross Church for choir rehearsal (not to be confused with my chorus).  Only have the members were able to make it, so we ran through a couple things, but the folks who weren't there will still need a refresher before we sing next.  Also found out that we have to sing at an ordination on 6/7, and there's a mass choir rehearsal this Tuesday.  So much for a free night.

After that, I came home and ate lunch while watching a couple forensics shows on TRU-TV.

Then upstairs to my computer and two hours going over various Fred Small numbers for the upcoming WCCC concert.  I finally met with Lynn Kotze, our ASL coordinator so she and I could work on what I'll be doing while signing "Cranes Over Hiroshima."  It was an interesting session earlier this week.  ASL interpretation is mostly about getting the idea across, but when you're targetting a hearing audience, the emphasis shifts from understanding to mirroring the text.  And, of course, there's just no way your hands (or mine, at least) can move as fast as the singers' mouths.  So, we spent some time deciding how I'd say it and still mirror the text as much as possible.  Which brings me to today, and spending about half an hour signing through the song over and over (none of which quite matched the other), and then moving on to "Not In Our Town" and "Big Italian Rose", both of which I'm singing on.

Today is a pool party and collation at Todd Voros' house.  there's also a good chance of a filk breaking out, but I'm not sure yet if I'm going.  The official filk was last weekend when I was tied up all day, but after two hours of working on music, I'm not sure a night of filking is what I'm in the mood for.  I'll have to see how the rest of the day unfolds.
