Miscellaneous Life

Interesting last few days.

1) Caught up on my reading for all the various and sundry posts that I can still access easily -- about two weeks worth.  Was good to hear what everyone's up to.

2)  We went to see the new Star Trek movie.  Enjoyed it, and was pleased to see that they came up with a good reason for...  well, no spoilers here.  Let's just say that I'll embrace it and see where it takes me.  I learned that lesson from BSG, and thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

3) Managed to connect with judifilksign for a few pointers on Cranes Over Hiroshima.  It'll be one of my biggest challenges in the upcoming show.  My other pieces are going to be much easier.

4) My brother Erik was in town last week from Ohio.  He comes back to Milwaukee once a year and sees the many friends he made while here. He's a big fan of doing airplane models, mostly WWII era, and is still a member of a local club.  He attended their meeting while here.  We discovered at OVFF a couple years ago that he was friends with filkart back around 1990.  Typical of the way coincidences follow me around.

5) Speaking of OVFF, a friend of mine from other circles turns out to be a fan of F&SF as well as music, so he's going to be attending his first OVFF this coming October.  I'll pick him up on my way past Dayton from seeing friends in Indianapolis the day before the convention.

6) Wil and I had a great opportunity to stretch our tax dollars his month.  Wil got a big tax check, which he spent to get a new computer for his online gaming.  As many of you know, Wil is disabled for a variety of medical reasons, and one of his big areas of social interaction while I'm off at work and such is to do online gaming.  So he got a good new gaming computer.  His previous computer became his secondary (if you're an avid MMO gamer, you'll know why it's great to have two), and his old secondary got sold to a friend of his whose sons wanted a second computer at their house so they could game online with dad.  The money we got from him went into buying me a brand new computer -- which is not yet 100% set up.  But all in all, that means we got three computer upgrades with our tax money.  Sweet!

Guess that's all for now.
