Gosha's english

Время бежит очень быстро, и Пухтышкин провел уже почти год в садике, где он пять дней в неделю, с 9утра до 6 вечера. На прошлой неделе нам выдали его "portfolio" -- фотографии его из садика, некоторые рисунки его семьи на протяжении года и всякие интересные только родителям каляки-маляки. В общем воспитательницы говорят, что у него все отлично, и ( Read more... )

You could probably qualify for speech therapy. It's for free :) But I don't know if you have time to drive him there.

interesting idea. Won't they tell us to speak to him only in English at home? Also, how bad does it have to be for them to say a child qualifies? I mean he does speak full sentences, he knows most common words, etc. It's just that he speaks with an accent, and he makes lots of mistakes (and although he knows lots of words, he doesn't tend to use them in English).

Don't know. They will expect you to do certain exercises at home. But may be you could read 1 English book every day and go through the necessary exercises while you are at it.

I think if his pronunciation is bad enough you can qualify just based on that. You go though an evaluation before they start working with you. But before that you gotta get a prescription from your doctor.

His pronunciation isn't horrible. It just has a noticeable russian accent.

I'm not so sure he would qualify. They would first ask which language is his first, find out it's Russian, and send me a russian-speaking speech therapist, who would determine that he has no problem with Russian. He just has a problem learning another language - not sure that gets you speech therapy for free.
