Settling with the roomie

Apr 21, 2010 00:13

So, as with living with anyone, I'm starting to understand the roomie's rhythm.

When I got home from work tonight I found my room mate sprawled out on the futon, using my laptop table as a foot stool. I don't mine the reallocation since I'm currently sitting as I normally do on my bed with my lap top cradled on my feet. I knew form his status on FB this morning that he was going to need story time so I dropped my stuff off at my room, changed into my pj's, gathered some clothing that needed to be washed and made full eye contact. We both made traditional tired noises and story time started.

After a few mins I sat on the futon too and gave him my full attention. Then I got to bitch about my one major thing from the past few days.

I know I write about this in a dry fashion but I think this is the first time I've really taken the time to understand the nuances of living with someone, let alone with a friend that you honestly barely knew.

I like to analyze things, like the almost fluid dance of me changing out the dishes and getting him to gather the ones from his room and the two of us being in the kitchen. I don't know why it amuses me, how when we are having a conversation, if one person move within the room, though still in ear shot, the other will move to stay in the near. Or how we both check for the others car when we come in or stand on the porch.

Perhaps I've just lived alone with my two cats too long, perhaps I've never really under stood how people really interact. All I just know that it's entertaining, well, atleast to me.
