Ok, so, are you watching Elementary? No? Well, you should, because it's fantastic.
Now look, if your reason for not wanting to watch Elementary because of some misguided "respect" for Sherlock I just... don't understand that reasoning. Even Benedict Cumberbatch doesn't understand that reasoning. Now, if you watch it and don't like it, fine, but I've been so frustrated with the Elementary tag on Tumblr and all the really stupid stupid reasoning so I'm easily agitated with any criticism, even the most well reasoned and legitimate criticism.
First, let me say I started off loving Lucy Liu, but being a little hesitant about Johnny Lee Miller. I really wasn't sure I was going to like his characterization at all. He definitely grew on me, though, and I really love him now. I think in order to enjoy him, you need to stop comparing him to other iterations of Sherlock. That includes Benny's, RDJ's, and even ACD canon. They are all unique. They are all based on the same character, but each writer and each actor adds a different flavor to it. And I found that I really do enjoy this flavor.
Also, ok, so Lucy Liu... LUCY LIU. I've always thought she was interesting. When I was younger I casually watched Ally McBeal (the dancing baby was too over the top for me at the time, so my viewership didn't last long) and I've seen both Charlie's Angels and Kill Bill, so I know who she was, but this is the first time I've really been excited about her. Like, I really really love her Watson.
And if you are going to comment on her gender or race, just-
Also, their chemistry together is great. I don't necessarily see it as romantic or sexual (yet). but they work extremely well together. They are a good team, which is what Holmes and Watson need to be.
Lastly, it has one o the catchiest intro tunes of any show ever. I find myself humming the song to myself on occasion.
Moral of the story, you should give Elementary a shot.
