Tony: Comic vs. Movie version?

So, I had planned on talking about what a surprise it was that 616!Steve turned into a mutant Spider monster that spews baby spiders from his mouth....But, I decided to post this question to you all, and was just curious about your general thoughts.

With the Avengers movie coming out, it's no secret that we have been getting an influx of new Steve/Tony fans - which is really wonderful.  More Steve/Tony love for all.  However, as I was browsing through this thing people call tumblr (lol)...I ran across this mini rant/post whatever here.  Now, I'm all for Tony!fans showing Tony love, and I believe no matter where your fandom is based off of...either comics, movies, cartoons, whatever...you can enjoy the fandom however you like.  But something about this post just struck a nerve...mostly noting how this particular fan interpreted Tony's persona.  I couldn't help but think...."are we talking about the same character?"

fictivore was the one who asked me how I felt about comic!Tony vs RDJ!Tony many moons ago...and at the time, I said I couldn't really give an answer since I felt I really didn't know who 616!Tony was.  But after coming across some fanfics, ramblings and whatever else from movie only fans...there was a part of me that can't help go..."that doesn't sound like Tony."  Then, I have to pound it into my mind that this is the movies, not 616, 1610, MA, or 7207....treat it like an AU.  I think it finally sunk in when I read valtyr's new Big Bang fic that took place in movie-verse and I kept going...geezes Tony is an ass.

But despite all that, I still think there are traits...no matter what the universe...that makes Tony, Tony.  Unless I really, really need to rewatch Ironman 1+2 (which I will do anyways)...in regards to claiming "...most of the troubles that Comic Tony has, he wouldn’t have if he was any way like Movie Tony."  [hand palms]   Aaaaaah...I can't really fault the reasoning considering the source, but....here is the thing.  Exactly how much sh*t has 616!Tony been through compared to movie!Tony?  If you will...movie!Tony has a long way to go...just keep that in mind.  He essentially is at the beginning of his story, and will encounter things that will change/mature him over time - it's called character development.

Ah, what is it I am trying to say/ask?  I guess my question to you is what are your thoughts about RDJ!Tony and (1610?)616!Tony?  Are they completely different...does movie!Tony not have the same self-loathing?  You prefer one over the other?  For you comic fans, what is it like to read all these new movie Steve/Tony fics (if you read any)?
