Australia so far

Well I got here on Thursday Sept 23. Feels like ive been here forever. Ill try to give a recap of what i did each day.

Sept 23- arrived at the airport around 630-7ish. it took awhile to get through immigration since there was so many people. One of my flights sucked since the lady in the middle was taking up the arm rest the whole time. Id try to go to sleep and she would bump me a million times and not say sorry once. I wanted to yell at her but i figured id be mature about it all. the longest flight wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. i had the middle seat and was next to a guy from sydney and a girl from perth. There was a lot of cute guys on the plane! On the shuttle to my hostel, i talked with an old couple sitting behind me. The lady thought what i was doing was great but the old guy was like "if i was your father i would not have let you go." he then proceded to reference the movie Taken and that girls get stolen everyday and such. What a way to start off alone in a new country, right? Once i got to the place all i did was sleep basically and wandered around a little bit to see what was in the area.

Sept 24 - I went on a free tour of Sydney that day. It was a 3 hour walking tour that took me 5 hours since i got lost of my way back to my hostel. I was really mad. I like getting lost with someone, not alone. The leader did not give me very good directions because i ended up walking in the wrong direction. Needless to say i wanted to go back home at this point. Later on that night I was asked by my Sweedish roommate, Emmy, if i wanted to out with her since its her friends birthday. I agreed since i had nothing else to do and she told me that this american guy might be there. I got excited that i would be meeting an american. By that point i was getting tired of listening to everyones accents all the time. Half the time i cant even understand them! But anyways, we met at some bar in sydney and there were 4 girls. Then we walked to surry hills to meet up with the bday girls boyfriend. He had a bunch of his friends there. Those were the first actualy Australian i had met. They were pretty nice. One of the guys called me 'Shelia' to get my attention. I thought it was funny since right before i left home, i learned that was another name for girl. He was confused with my earring and suprised with my tounge ring, it was funny. They had me try and talk like them saying "good day mate" with their accent. They said i did an awesome job. They then proceded to try my accent but failed. It just sounded funny. The american guy (from PA), Strat, showed up and we were both so happy to meet a fellow american. it was funny.

Sept 25 - I was invited by my English roommate, Andy, to go to the beach with some friends of his from the hostel. Only 1 other girl, a canadian named sara, joined us. She was really nice. She had a surfing lesson booked and if i knew ahead of time, i would have booked one too since i want to learn. We went to Manly Beach. We took the ferry which was $14 and took 30 minutes. We were there for about 3 1/2 hours. Although after awhile the sun went away and it was pretty chilly. I fell asleep a few times but luckily turned over each time so i wouldnt get burnt, but i did manage to get a little tan luckily.

Sept 26 - Was woken up at 545am by Andy stumbling into the room drunk. He got into his top bunk, layed down, came back down, almost falling over the luggage on the ground and went to the bathroom, came back in again stumbling and fell asleep fast, snoring so lound i couldnt get back to sleep. Strat and i decided to meet at the park and take a train ride to the Blue Mountains. It was 2 hours away but took 3 hours since at one stop along the way, they coudlnt get the doors to close properly so we had to wait for someone to fix them. we walked around for 3 hours. It was really fun taking pictures and seeing the mountains since they really did have a blue mist to it. no wonder why they call them that. after i got back i was so tired from being up really early and doing so much walking.

Sept 27 - Hung out with Strat. Didnt do too much. Just walked around again since theres all there is to do when you dont have a job or a car. We were gona go to Bondi Beach but it was really cold that day It was sopposed to be his last day there but he moved it to one more day because he didnt have his bus or hostel planned out yet. he was going to help me get a phone. I didnt know i needed my passport to get it and i was about 30min away from my place so we decided to get it later. Instead we went to the botanical gardens and took pictures, went back to my place to get my passport and went back to try and get a phone. After all of that, i decided not to get a phone. im too cheap. i decided i can live without it. haha. especially since idk how much longer ill be here. We went to get a drink at the bar above his hostel. It was $6 for my drink so i only had one even though it was really good.

Sept 28 - When i woke up, my legs hurt so much that i could barely walk. I pretty much did nothing ALL DAY. I watched a movie on my laptop, i got thai take out and was online for a bit. It was relaxing but of course boring too.

Sept 29 - Woke up with my legs feeling much better (atleast for a few hours). I hung out with Strat for a couple hours before he had to get on a bus and moved to Melbourne. Sucks since it was fun hanging out with him ,especially since he knew his way around and i never got lost. I got back to the hostel around 7 and my legs wernt hurting so i took the opportunity to go for a run. Ran a total of about 2 miles. Unfortunately about after 1 mile it started pouring out. I was going to to go bed early but Sara convinced me to go out with the Hostel to OMalleys Pub nearby. Got a free Snakebite drink (1/2 beer, 1/2 cider) which wasnt too bad but i got a stomach ach after drinking 1/4 of the glass. I decided to stay though since there was a prize wheel which i had 3 tickets for. One of my tickets was the 2nd to be drawn so that was cool but what happened after, wasnt cool. I introduced myself and got booed bc i was from NY. Then the guy made me say "red leather, yellow leather' 3x fast and i couldnt so i got booed again. he let me spin the wheel anyways and of course it would land on 'physical challenge'. What i had to do was eat 6 chocolate truffles in 1 minute. Of course i didnt manage to get it all swallowed so i got booed again. Yet i was still able to spin the wheel again and i got a free skittle bomb drink. I gave the drink to sara since i didnt want to drink. needless to say, i went home shortly after.

Sept 30 - I woke up with my throat killing me. I think Emmy is getting me sick. But today i had a job interview at 1pm as a fundraising consultant. It took me a little over an hour to walk there. I dont really think i got the job though. It was a group interview and i think the other people that had more experience are going to get it. it would actually just be just like a door to door salesman. Making $500/week the first 3 weeks and then after that, by commission. $137 for each sign up. You would work about 6-7 days a week for about 4 hours each so it would add up if your pitch was good and people signed up!. After i got home i tried to go online but the internet sucks here so i got off and went on the computers in the lobby and looked up flight info since im still wanting to go home. then went to bed for 3 hours since my stomach started hurting and i was freezing and now im writing in this journal.

Ill try to update this more frequently while im here.
