Jack had spent most of the day handwavily with Sam. He could tell she was feeling better - her tolerance for being coddled was dropping rapidly - but she was still letting him fuss. She'd had a shower, eaten more soup, and let him read to her until she fell asleep. Wary of disturbing her, he'd eventually slipped out and back to his room.

Jack was tired, unhappy, and the very last thing he felt like doing was facing Isabel.

Guilt, however, was a powerful spur. Add in worry - which he couldn't shake, no matter how he tried - and here he was, knocking on her door.

Either she wasn't in, or she wasn't answering because she knew it was him.

Most of Jack's day had been spent handwavily wandering around the island, but now he was back in his room, feeling incredibly mellow and relaxed.

The TV was on, but he wasn't really watching it. Instead he was lying on the bed, lazily paging through a book, and occasionally sipping from the cup of tea sitting under the plant.
