Politics

Here's my take on the insanity that is the US political process.

Yes, I understand that running a country is a complicated, ruthless, challenging, nearly impossible task. So yeah, I can understand how a candidate needs to be qualified and then some, and then some, to actually fit into the office.

But all of those qualifications have taken centre stage, and pushed everything else important off to the side.

Barack Obama's presidency will most likely be a failure. He will most likely go down as the most promising President in history. Why?

Because A House Divided Cannot Stand.

The truths about running an office *well* have been laid out, time and time again, and they will continue to be ignored, unless I miss my guess.

There is no way that the Republicans will ever get behind Barack Obama. There is no way that half the Democratic Party will ever get 100% behind Obama. And without these things, and many others, Barack Obama will not be able to stop the failure of his Presidency. Because the US as a country has also failed.

Washington himself spoke about the evils of bipartisan politics, how the political spectrum must NEVER become polarized. And yet we have done it. And it will continue to be done. Such, I suppose, is the nature of the pendulum. It must swing from right to left, from wisdom to ignorance, from sanity to insanity, from insight to blindness, and back again.

The trick to living in the world is finding which ones your priorities are (because there are many different pendulums, and each "category" swings seemingly-independent of all the rest) and getting behind the ones that are swinging to where you are best suited to be.

Me, I'll continue to look for the pendulum that's swinging to wisdom.
