Baywatch Movie (Spoilers)
BFF & I went to see the Baywatch movie today. Spoilers ahead:
- The plot of the movie: Mitch (Dwayne Johnson) is a Baywatch lifeguard. Matt (Zac Efron) is a washed up Olympian who gets assigned to Baywatch as part of his probation. Someone mentions "It's not important what it was" & we never find out what the crime was. Mitch, Matt & the other lifeguards work together to figure out who's smuggling drugs in their beach town.
- Baywatch is two hours long, but it doesn't drag on. Our theatre really got into the movie. Is it summer fluff ? Absolutely, but in a fun way. It's a two hour ode to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson being funny / adorable / hot. Enjoy the movie for what is is. You're not showing up expecting Shakespeare anyway. Baywatch is a great time killer on a rainy summer day.
- The drug smugglers all own a particular item, which Matt eventually realizes. Early in the movie, a character is shown with that item. So you spend the whole movie thinking "Oh yeah, he / she is definitely getting arrested at the end. We're going to see his / her evil side revealed." But that never happens. I asked BFF if he assumed the same setup was about to happen & he said yes. I'm not sure if that was a mistake on our parts or if the writers are leaving an open plot for a Baywatch 2 movie.
- Who will you enjoy in this movie ? Depending on your preferences, your eyecandy is either Mitch (Dwayne), Summer (Alexandra Daddario) / CJ (Kelly Rohrbach), Stephanie (Ilfenesh Hadera) or Victoria (Priyanka Chopra). If you thought Matt (Zac Efron) would make the audience drool, well, that certainly didn't happen here! Our theatre audience was vocal about how unattractively veiny & jacked up Zac Efron looked in the obstace course scene where his shirt was off.
-The music used was catchy. I'd probably buy the soundtrack.
- Warning: There are a lot of dick jokes in this movie. Close ups of covered erections are shown. A dead man's penis is shown several times. You're going to see someone's bare butt (not Dwayne's, alas).
-I'll try not to spoil the ending for you, but don't leave until the credits are done rolling.
