the coveted Saucemaker

It came. The highly coveted (by me) 2 quart Golden Wheat Saucemaker. No lid or handle, but that's ok. I already have a handle, and the hunt has begun for a lid. I got the 3 petite pans in the deal, but I didn't realize how small they are. I thought I'd seen petite pans before, but it turns out what I've seen were the A-1-B size. They would be too small to use as a single lunch box, but I could use two together. The good news is that the lids I bought do indeed fit. Hooray!

On my favorite drying mat. The Saucemaker is rather large. I'm considering buying the 1 quart, but I'm too cheap to buy the one I found online since the total after shipping would be $10 more than what I paid for the 4 piece set pictured above.

I feel very fortunate to have so far received 100% of my online Corningware purchases safely *knock on wood* I've heard many stories and seen pictures of broken pieces in boxes. Certainly I have found the condition of an item to be different from described, but I think that comes from being more picky than most people. For example, this set was simply described as being in excellent condition, with little signs of use. While that is true, the graphics on one of the petite pans is uniformly faded on both sides, possibly from being in the dishwasher or maybe from some kind of manufacturing inconsistency. Another pan's graphics has ragged edges on both sides, possibly from inappropriate cleaning. Which reminds me, I've positively ruined my pie pan, but at least that means it's loved, I suppose. In any case, since my point of interest in this set was the Saucemaker primarily, the imperfections of the petite pans don't bother me. Also, I can't reasonably expect decades-old cookware to be in perfect condition. So there.

fun find, corningware
