Hump day nearly over

Hurry up, springtime~

Had a confusing week so far; finally figured out why today. I'd accidentally misset the date on my computer one day behind. It explains why even though I knew it was Wednesday (went to Wednesday classes, and everyone else was there) I kept having the niggling impression of a Tuesday.

やっとFinished the syntax.

Failed at dinner.
Aiming for deep-fried pork cutlets to go with the left-over curry. Major issues with the frying. First of all, it takes a ridiculous amount of oil with the flat-bottomed wok. Then enter my complete lack of ability to figure out the [for all practical purposes] temperature of the stove meant I crisped the outsides a bit too much and innards were still nicely raw. Not a good idea with pork. So, figuring that they couldn't get MORE inedible, I peeled the breading off, zapped them in the microwave, and then rebreaded, and fried them again at a lower temperature. I think technically this temperature was too low, but they were cooked (if perhaps more oil-filled than is good for me. I figure, deep-fried anything isn't exactly healthy, so does it really matter?).
Though when I ate them they tasted pretty good. So I guess it wasn't a total failure.
And there was leftover curry.
Oh! And I used stillesprite's rice-cooker without complications for the first time this year. It worked for me in the past, it worked for me tonight, but there was a random stretch where it liked to make rice paper up around the lid along with normally steaming rice.

also, random song uploaded here for your pleasure. I'm not really sure. of anything about it really. But I enjoy it.

egg-salad sando for lunch. they make me happy.
I am totally not eating healthy ^__^ v

This is me, not in bed by 12 after-all. Oh well, I'm going after this.

Ran into my Japanese teacher at work; she's helping out over in the collections developement dept because the reference librarian for East Asia (and Linguistics. It was very convenient for me last semester) knows Korean and Chinese and absolutely no Japanese (ok, so maybe not as convenient as it could have been).

Napped through Business Japanese again. I'm still up in the air about whether I blame the class or the not enough sleep. Probably it's both.

  • these are just notes for self-reference, don't bother.
  • If the temperature of the oil is not hot enough, then the meat will absorb a lot of oil.
  • If the temprature of the oil is too hot, then the meat will burn on the outside and not cook all the way through.
  • cornstarch makes meat better (usually).
  • cabbage releases a lot of water, so you don't have to put as much water in the batter.
the second okomiyaki to be made on a pan is said to taste better because it fries in the meat-juices of the previous one.
I'm sure there were more...*thinks like Winnie the Pooh*

food, nikki no baka, music!post!, japanese, baito, weather, posts of oblique references, homework, sleep, school, chinese
