T_T i am such an addict.
my dad has that thing were he kind of stops breathing in his sleep (as in, this is the reason he snores). OMG I HATE IT. it is seriously the most disconcerting thing ever. it's just like.
...you expect me to sit here and listen to you not breathing. :\ he, of course, insists that he doesn't (because he's never heard himself.) la;ljkfaljk;fa. *flails*
went to bed at 3 last night, woken up at 5, pulling out of hte parking lot around 5:24. Asleep again by 5:40, and then basically, I slept until we got to Greenville, where we stopped for lunch around 1:38. I feel so rested. it's been a long time since I've actually gotten enough sleep.
helzfyah: Ryo's sort of the little black dress of fandom - he looks good on everyone xD
went to the one panel i was really interested in all the papers (japanese linguistics. sasuga me), and they were. Cook is totally bad at technology. There was this guy named Unger (I wrote down his name so i could hate on him later. god i am so petty) from Ohio State who asked a question of the discussants, but it wasn't really a question. it was more like his platform to give his own opinions on whatever and tell the discussants that they should be agreeing with him. At any rate, I've decided that I don't like him (his question was stupid and did not address the issues brought up in the panel. Plus, he was using a completely different definition of meaning to criticise the fact that someone had said 'meaning' in their paper, which essentially misinterpreted the whole thing. i mean, sure, you don't have to agree with what the people said. they didn't agree with each other. but when you bring up your issues, at least have the be pertinent), and that i am very glad I don't go to Ohio State.
Um, the papers were all interesting, but i think everyone was pretty tired, because we'd all essentially just arrived. It was kind of cool to see the people whose paper's I've read, though. they're all older than i thought they'd be.
I randomly ran into Mori-sensei on my way into the hotel because some Teachers of Japanese association was/is(?) having a conference in atlanta too--in the same hotel. So, ran into her, and we were both kind of like :O what are you doing here? but yeah. that was pretty cool. small world, what.
It's been a bit of a while since I've had to do it, but now i can definitely say for sure that I like walking into a room where I don't know anyone at all and just meeting people than going into a place where I know a few people kind of ok. It's a lot easier for me to just talk to complete strangers than it is for me to make awkward small talk with acquaintances, and when I know someone, I feel kind of obligated to hang around with them (which makes it more awkward when I run out of things to say). With strangers, you don't know anything, so there's a lot more you can ask. With aquaintances, there's stuff you should know, a lot you don't, and it's hard to judge what kinds of things are appropriate yet, and which ones still aren't.
I should really go to bed now, once i figure out all the places i want to be tomorrow and where/when they are.
tentative declaration of end of hiatus once the weekend's over? yesterday and the day before I managed to go back through the day's worth of flist entries, and it was such a nice feeling. I'm going to catch up with everyone. really.
edit: i was also irrationally pleased whenever the person giving the talk on narratives in signs showed a picture of a sign or advertisement I'd seen when I was in Tokyo. There were some ads where i was just like !!! that set of ads ran on my commute!
