Hurrah!
So...um...developing a love for Steampunk. I'm actually knee deep in creating a Steampunk character for Halloween, even.
I found a full-length crinoline & beautiful floor-length gold skirt at the thrift store for $7 each, paired it with a vaguely military/vaguely corsety vest I bought on clearance but haven't been able to find a use for (though I may, in fact, splurge on a real corset since I've wanted one for YEARS nevermind, just ordered THIS), pulled on some gloves (because I have two boxes of costume wardrobe bits), and am now accessorizing. Today I made these earrings out of some lovely pendants I found on clearance at Joann's.
As per meggiekw's wonderful suggestion, I'm also having "calling cards" made up with a brief definition of Steampunk on the back, so I don't have to spend all Halloween explaining it :)
I think I've also decided that I want to have a costume party for my birthday this year. Seriously, you only turn 31 once, right?!
Other than that I'm spending all my time playing The Beatles Rock Band, which is so fun it hurts (literally--I keep going hoarse & trying to lose my voice!) and trying not to drop my courses this semester even though I really REALLY want to.
