“Finn, what the hell is your problem?”

Kurt froze as he was pulling the water pitcher out of the fridge, his boyfriend's angry and hurt voice carrying from the Hummel-Hudson living room. Kurt quietly shut the refrigerator, but didn't dare move from his post. He had figured that this was coming sooner or later, with the way Finn had been acting toward Blaine recently, especially in glee. Kurt had said something when Blaine wasn't there, but Finn had shrugged it off, saying he must have just been in a bad mood,he had nothing against Blaine. But Finns 'bad mood' was becoming more and more frequent and the excuse was running thin if the way Finn had been treating Blaine lately was any indication.

Kurt had been so close to putting Finn in his place several times but Blaine had told him not to, that he didn't want to make a scene. Blaine had always been a peacemaker; he didn't like confrontations and avoided them if at all possible. But even the most peaceable person had their breaking point, and it seemed like Blaine had his. Kurt briefly wondered what Finn had said to set his boyfriend off.

“I don't have one,” Finn answered Blaine shortly.

Kurt heard Blaine scoff and could just picture the look on his boyfriend's face. “Yeah right, Finn. That's why you put me down every chance you get, you go out of your way to make me feel unwelcome at school, in glee, and now here. So I ask again, what the hell is your problem?”

“My problem is you coming in like you own the place thinking you can get whatever the hell you want,” Finn shouted angrily. “Well you can't, dude. You can't just waltz in and expect everything handed to you. You've got to earn your dues. Stand in the background for once.”

Kurt was indignant on Blaine's behalf. He never once thought that Blaine was trying to take over. The way Blaine fit in with the New Directions was entirely different from the solo monopoly he had as the Dalton lead singer.

“I don't mind being in the background, Finn, I'm not trying to take anything from anybody.” Kurt could hear the incredulousness in Blaine's voice at the accusation.

“Yeah, so that's why you auditioned for Tony when you knew that Kurt had his heart set on the part.”

“I was asked to. I didn't try out for the part initially. I would never...” Blaine's answer sounded desperate and pleading.

Finn scoffed. “Sure, whatever. Keep telling yourself that.”

Kurt closed his eyes, wishing he wasn't hearing this. He was touched that Finn was trying to look out for him, and yeah, he'd been a little hurt that he didn't get the role, but that didn't mean that Blaine had to feel guilty about his triumph. Finn's heart may have been in the right place, but he was completely going about it the wrong way.

“I will because it's true. I'm just happy to be a part of New Directions and the school. Or I was until you went out of your way to try and make me miserable here. Which I really don't understand. We used to get along. Hell I even considered you a friend.”

Kurt forcibly held himself back from rushing into the room and pulling Blaine into his arms when he heard the utter heartbreak and devastation in his boyfriend's voice. He could kill Finn for making Blaine feel that way.

“Yeah, well that was before,” came Finn's answer.

“Before what?” Kurt could just imagine the tears that Blaine was trying to hold back well up in his eyes.

“Before I realized that you were using Kurt to hurt New Directions!”

“What?” Blaine's incredulous question mirrored Kurt's own thoughts and he could no longer just stand back and let Finn accuse Blaine of that. He rounded the corner, fully prepared to lash out at Finn guns blazing, and quickly took in the scene before him.

They were both standing toe to toe, Finn towering over Blaine, a look of pure anger and loathing on his face. Blaine was holding his own though, not backing down, his face equally angry, though Kurt could see the sadness in it too.

“You heard me,” Finn snarled in answer to Blaine's question.

“Finn, how could you possibly think that?” Blaine asked and Kurt hesitated. Neither Finn or Blaine had noticed his presence yet and Kurt was curious as to Finn's answer, so he held back and waited.

“Well I didn't at first.” Finn explained pulling back slightly, running a hand through his hair. “I thought, 'Blaine's a pretty cool guy, he's such a good friend to Kurt'. I was glad that he had a friend when he transferred. And hell, when you two got together, I thought, 'This is awesome. Kurt deserves someone to be with like that'.”

Kurt found it sweet that Finn had been happy for him and had been so comfortable with the development of his relationship, but he, like Blaine if the look of confusion on his face was anything to go by, didn't see the connection to Blaine suddenly using Kurt to sabotage New Directions.

Finn continued. “Then you went and transferred and it all suddenly became so clear to me that you never once really cared about Kurt, you were just going to do whatever you had to to get a leg up on winning by enticing Kurt to leave us and when that didn't work you left Dalton to sabotage us from the inside.”

Suddenly Kurt got it, and his anger for Finn grew. He couldn't believe he was projecting his own insecurities (or rather Rachel’s, especially when Rachel herself didn't seem to see it as a problem) onto Blaine.

“When were you planning on transferring back?” Finn asked suddenly in Blaine's face again. “Right before Sectionals? Were you hoping that breaking my brother's heart in the process would destroy our glee club and make us unable to perform? Do us all a favor, Blaine, and leave before it's too late and you completely break him.”

Kurt watched as Blaine backed away from Finn, a look of utter disbelief on his face. He sat hard on the couch, looking as if he was trying to process Finn's ridiculous accusations, his hand rubbing his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose as he tried to explain.

“Finn, first of all you're nuts. I don't even know how you came up with such a ridiculous conclusion. Second of all, Even if what you say was remotely true, which it most definitely isn't, I'm pretty sure I'm way past the point of being able to leave Kurt without completely breaking his heart. And mine.”

“What?” Finn looked confused as Blaine's words sunk in. He sat down on the couch as well, staring straight ahead and looking completely stunned at being so utterly wrong in his conclusions.

“I love your brother, Finn, “Blaine explained turning his body away from where Kurt was still observing unnoticed to fully face Finn once again. “I love him so much it hurts. It's why I transferred in the first place. I couldn't stand to be away from him. I would never use him in any way. Winning isn't everything and I would never dream of using anyone, but especially Kurt, just to try to get a leg up in a silly singing competition.”

“I...” Finn looked utterly bewildered as he was trying to process all of this.

“Finn,” Kurt cut in, finally making his presence known. Both boys startled from their place on the couch. “You need to stop projecting your issues with what happened with Jessie and Rachel on to Blaine. Not everyone is as despicable as that heel. Blaine certainly isn't.”

Kurt sat down on the couch next to Blaine and slid his arms around his waist turning them both towards Finn so that Kurt was slotted nicely behind Blaine's back. He rested his chin on Blaine's shoulder as he continued.

“I love him, and I trust that's he's being completely honest when he tells me that he loves me too. And he's right. It is too late for me to not be completely shattered if he ever left, so I'd appreciate if you stopped trying to run my boyfriend off. I would hate to have to loathe you for eternity if you actually succeeded.”

Finn looked dully reprimanded and Kurt was pleased to see that he seemed fixated on the fact that Blaine's arms had come to rest on Kurt's. He hoped that Finn saw the love and the trust that they both shared in that little gesture.

“I get that you're trying to be a good brother by looking out for me, but you're seriously misguided on this issue. “

Finn looked up then, but avoided looking at Kurt. He looked instead at Blaine for a brief second before looking away and running his hand over the back of his neck. “I'm sorry, man. I....yeah.” Finn stammered, turning red in embarrassment.

“It's okay,” Blaine said softly.

“No, it's not Blaine, stop being so nice.” Kurt cut in, his face still hard and judgmental, but his words didn't quite hold the punch that they should have.

“Well...yes. Kurt's right it wasn't okay, but I do forgive you,” Blaine amended.

Finn's face, which had been forlorn and resembled that of a kicked puppy lit up at Blaine's words. “Cool man. So we're cool?”

“ As long as you stop telling me to sit down and disregarding me in glee club, we're cool.” Blaine answered, and Kurt gave his boyfriend a little squeeze around the middle.

“Yeah, cool,” Finn said getting off of the couch. He started to head toward the stairs but stopped to face the two again. “But Blaine?”

“Yes, Finn?” Blaine asked solemnly.

“You ever do anything to actually hurt my brother, you're going to wish you never met me.” Finn warned his face hard again.

Blaine just chuckled as Kurt buried his face in Blaine's shoulder in embarrassment. “You don't have to worry about that, but message received. I promise Kurt's in good hands.”

Finn nodded once, his face softening back to his usual friendly smile. “Okay then. Cool.” With that Finn bounded up the stairs leaving Kurt and Blaine alone.

Kurt groaned as Blaine turned around in his arms to face him, still laughing quietly. “You know, it's kind of sweet that he cares enough to worry about you like that, misguided as it was.”

Kurt just shook his head, torn between wanting to die of embarrassment from Finn's over-protectiveness and the urge to kill his brother for being such an idiot.

Blaine grew serious and lifted Kurt's chin so that they were looking at each other. “You know I'd never hurt you right? Whatever Finn thought I was trying to do, you know that I'm not, right? I love you.”

Kurt smiled softly. “I know, love. I love you too. And just so you know, I'd never do anything to hurt you either.” Kurt answered, leaning in and placing a soft kiss to Blaine's lips.

“I never thought that you would.” Blaine answered before they got lost in the kiss again.
