What bothered me about the whole Tina/Mike thing (besides the fact that Tina totally ripped off that quote from Gandhi), was that Tina spent the first season all "I'm awesome and rah rah rah, I don't need to change or be a sex symbol" and went off on Artie for even suggesting that, and now she's...just like everyone else. I'm not saying that it's Mike's fault at all for that, I just feel like her behavior this season reeks of the writers just completely giving up on her.

On the one hand, I agree with you - Tina totally ripped off the quote (though I think the writers probably did that under the assumption that most people would either get that or Google it), and she does deserve a lot better than what the writers have given her this season. Everyone not named Kurt, Blaine, or Dave does (and arguably Santana), really (and even that's kind of debatable, since Kurt's gotten the most consistency, but started alienating some fans, meriting the criticism of "insufferable," etc) - but Tina and Mercedes get special nods because they've been so far reduced from their original characters.

On the other hand, though, I didn't really take issue with her wanting to be an "Asian sex-symbol," and I think there's a critical difference between that and what she went off on Artie for. She was specifically objecting to how he was objectifying her, and treating her as if her only purpose in life was to change herself to be what he wanted. When she went off on him, it wasn't because he was sexualizing her or trying to ( ... )

You have made me so ridiculously happy reading this. This was the second episode of Glee I've ever seen (well, mostly seen as I turned on the tv late) and I could totally see myself actually watching the whole show if I got to do it while reading your recaps.

re: Puck: yeeeah, he was missing the point, but I kind of liked that for him. Aside from his support being adorable, he's really living up to that mini-speech thing he gave Lauren about how he doesn't think about consequences but doesn't want to be that guy anymore ... while still remaining true to his essential Puck-ness of being kind of selfish and kind of constantly thinking about sex and not always that bright. And I don't like how the throwaway reference to him being "depressed" after Quinn dumped him was just dropped after the season premiere, but he's getting character development (most recently incited by juvie, Lauren, and Kurt transferring, but the long start of it's even back in the first thirteen episodes [arguably, since he was stuck in the Heel Face Revolving Door] and definitely in "Laryngitis" when Mercedes gives him the, "I didn't like the guy you were while throwing nerds in the dumpster and I don't think you like that guy either" speech) - and he's getting it without losing what made him a unique character in the ( ... )

... also, if Rabastan and Death Eater Wilkes don't talk to each other ever, can I dibs Death Eater Wilkes? His name is Rudyard and he's part of seducing Tony into playing Evan. ... he also looks like Jack Davenport, although he will not wear a poncy powdered wig a la Commodore Norrington.

YES. THIS. ... I've only seen about two other people bring this point up before (one was on tumblr, and one was my school-friend Matt, the one who said he'd save me in a zombie apocalypse because I understand teamwork and the value of not fighting amongst ourselves over silly things), and it constantly slips my mind ... because I have the attention span of a really hyperactive puppy and go, "OOO CISCENTRISM! OOO BINARISM! OOO MISOGYNY! SQUIRREL!!! LESBIAN SUBTEXT! HOMOSOCIAL DESIRE! YOU'RE NOT READING THE BIBLE RIGHT STOP CALLING YOURSELF A CHRISTIA- OOOO TRANSPHOBIA! FATPHOBIA! SLUT-SHAMING! SQUIRREL!!!!!but, yes. Gaga's intentions with the song might've been as pure as mountain snow (and ... I want to give her the benefit of the doubt and say they probably were, but I have no idea; I don't know her), but the execution was just so ... mleh. Offensive, and lyrically/musically mediocre. Uninspired, besides. And a lot of it comes off as thoughtless - it's the offensiveness where she's not being malicious, she's just not thinking that ( ... )

But I love it when you rant. And you never have to apologize for it to me, dearheart. ♥

And I agree with/empathize with pretty much everything you've said here. And I'm going to respond to it more thoroughly, but sfkjf, in the interests of actually doing the schoolwork I said I was going to, I'm kicking myself off LJ for a while. But I love you, and this rant, and when you rant in general because your rants are awesome.
