Tradition

“Torres? If you’re not up here, I am so going to be pissed at you for making me climb all those stairs.”

“I’m here. But you don’t need to be. I just needed some air, Bishop, and I wasn’t planning to throw myself off the roof, if that’s what you were thinking.”

“I wasn’t thinking it, so thanks for that image.”

“You’re welcome. Good night.”

“Oh, no, I’m not leaving.”

“I don’t need a babysitter and I don’t want to talk about it.”

“We don’t have to. But you can’t be up here alone.”

“Yeah, says who? Gibbs?”

“No, tradition.”

“Tradition?”

“Yeah. One of us out here on the roof, because of… circumstances they prefer not to discuss, and a partner who’s here to listen. Or not.”

“Okay, sure. But I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Okay.”

“Because I made the only choice I could. I only had a couple of seconds.”

“Right.”

“I mean, the bloodwork can’t prove if he was hallucinating or not.”

“That’s what Abby said.”

“And he sure seemed lucid enough. He answered my questions like he understood me.”

“Yes, he did.”

“But he was high on all kinds of stuff and I’ll never really know if he meant to kill anyone.”

“He did have a loaded gun.”

“That doesn’t make me feel any better, Bishop.”

“Honestly, not much will at this point. Now, have you gotten enough air yet? Because I’m starting to get cold.”

“Yeah. Yeah, I think I’m okay. Thanks.”

“What are partners for?”
