Ain't It Thrilling

It had been autumn the first time the team had visited P2X-337, but now it was clearly winter, with snow several inches deep, except where a path had been cleared to the village.

As they headed back to the gate, negotiations satisfactorily concluded for once, Rodney bumped John’s shoulder and nodded toward a nearby snow-covered mountain. “You’re planning on climbing that when the weather gets warmer, aren’t you?”

John grimed “Actually, I was wondering if the Pegasus Galaxy had invented skis.”

“I’ll tell you what they haven’t invented - ski lifts. You really want to walk all the way up there, then back?”

“Good point,” John allowed. “Besides, I don’t think they’ve invented ski lodges, either.”

“Exactly. The whole point of skiing is actually the - Hey!”

Rodney, who had been to the front of the group, hunched in surprise as a snowball hit his shoulder. He whirled, scowling at Ronon, who held up both dry hand defensively, then turned to Teyla, who raised one snowy hand to cover her smile.

“You…” Rodney spluttered. “You…”

“I couldn’t help it,” said Teyla, only a little apologetic.

“You…” he repeated, then ducked to scoop up his own snowball, which she easily dodged. “Hey!”

“This is a game of warrior’s skill,” Teyla said, solemnly - then launched another snowball, which she’d had hidden in her other hand behind her back, directly at John’s face.

“Hey!”

It was chaos after that, all four of them running and laughing and covered in snow, until Ronon caught John by his tac vest to dump a handful of snow down the back of his jacket.

“Truce!” John wheezed through chattering teeth, winded but smiling. “Rodney, dial us home.”

On the other side of the wormhole, on the warm spring day of New Lantea, they immediately started melting, looking more wet bedraggled by the second.

Lorne frowned, clearly not sure if he should be worried. “Sir?”

John snorted a laugh. “A word of advice, major? Don’t let Teyla start any snowball fights.”

“I’ll… keep that in mind, sir.”

John nodded and dripped his way after his team toward their post-mission exams.
