"Shirley, what's today?"
The red-head stared at Bunny then pointed to the calendar right beside the desk. "Thursday, m'dear."
Bunny made a face at the sarcastic tone. "No, no. I mean, it feels like there was something going on today that I forgot."
"Nothing new," Shirley muttered into her hand, where she had been resting her head. She then sighed and got up from her chair, patting the brunette on the shoulder. "Did you have an appointment somewhere? Were you meeting someone for lunch? Did you need to put your laundry in the dryer?"
Bunny shook her head. "I'm pretty sure it wasn't any of those."
"Are you sure it's even for today? Maybe you thought you'd start preparing for it now so whatever it is would be ready by tomorrow -- or even next week."
The brunette considered for a moment, then shook her head again. "I think someone else was supposed to know, too."
"Did you check with Cath or Janet yet?"
"You're the first person I came across when I thought of it."
"Well, go find them, then. Maybe Chibodee knows, too."
As Bunny walked away, Shirley returned to her seat and leaned back to relax. Her gaze wandered to the calendar, and it was then an answer came to her. But she did not call after Bunny.

"Janet, Cath, do either of you know what today is?"
The two looked up from the buckets of paint they had been debating over. Bunny happened to catch them during a staring contest, wherein the fate of a door frame was to be decided.
"The seventh," they replied at the same time, immediately renewing their contest.
Bunny sighed, shrugging. "Everyone's a smart aleck. I know, but is there anything going on today? I feel like I should know..."
"Check your appointment book," Cath offered, not looking away from Janet.
"It's not an appointment!" She paused, one finger posed to tap her bottom lip. "Well, it could be, but not like a dentist or doctor..."
"Check it anyway," Janet insisted. "You might be mistaken about that, too, if you can't remember."
"I have to find it." Bunny hurried off. A few seconds later the staring contest ended when Cath and Janet each turned, grabbed a paint brush, and plunged it into the color of their choice then attacked the door frame, seeing who would reach the lintel first.

The doorbell rang just as Bunny was crossing the foyer. She blinked, wondering who it could be at that time of day. The mail had already come hours ago. She opened it and smiled in greeting. "Allenby! What a surprise! What are you doing here?"
Allenby stared at her, then laughed nervously. She hefted a large bag in front of her. "D-Don't tell me I got the time wrong..."
"Time wrong?" Bunny blinked at her. "I wouldn't feel bad if I were you, and if you did. I've been trying to remember something all day."
Allenby stared again. "You don't know what time, then?" She turned, putting one hand to her head, murmuring, "I must be completely off if one of his girls doesn't know."
Chibodee's voice drifted down the stairs. "Know what?" The boxer jogged the rest of the way down and hooked an arm around Bunny. "Hey, Allenby! Good to see you!"
Allenby grinned and waved. "Hello! Um...Happy birthday!" She held the bag out to him, blushing faintly while she hoped that she hadn't gotten it wrong after all.
Chibodee beamed and, releasing Bunny, took the bag. "Thanks! And c'mon in! We weren't gonna have a party or anything but you can join us for pizza and a movie if you like!" He held out his free hand toward her.
"That'd be great!" As soon as she was in range he put his arm around her shoulders, guiding her toward the TV room.
Bunny watched them with a mortified look on her face. She dashed up the stairs to her room where her present for Chibodee was hidden. Next year I swear I won't forget!!
